+ [livejournal.com profile] eckerlilas wins tonight! ♥ I hope she, [livejournal.com profile] shutyourface, [livejournal.com profile] fiddleyoumust, [livejournal.com profile] ericaplease, and [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane (and others I'm sure I'm forgetting) had an awesome time at the Discos' show tonight. PICS OF THE STEAM PUNK KIT, I WANT THEM!

+ Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane! Here's to a new year, full of exciting travel plans and a new place and hopefully lots of positive thoughts and events!

+ Spent the day wigged out because I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen my wedding ring. I don't even wear it 99% of the time, but when I was digging out earrings to wear this morning I didn't see it in its spot, and I couldn't figure out when I'd last worn it or where I might've put it. Searched before work, then after work I dug through all backpacks, bags, totes, and pockets before finding it.

All that stress for a hunk of pressed metal and crystal?

+ Spent half my work day using one of the department's confocal microscopes. IDK, it's good that the manager wants to help me learn the system, but she's a physicist, not a cell biologist, so I'm not sure that her advice will give me the result that I need. But at least I know now how to work the set-up, and I didn't bleach my samples, so I can always sign up for more time and re-acquire images with a higher magnification and redefining the original Z plane where I want, rather than where she thinks the cells look best.

+ Hey, new Against Me! album. I'm enjoying you. (Even though you're just different recordings/demos from Searching for a Former Clarity.)

+ Billie Joe Armstrong's teenaged sons have a band? And he produced their first album? I can't decide if I'm intrigued or if that convinces me even more that it's all about who you know.

+ So TAI's following in the footsteps of other DD/FBR bands? I'm sure I'll be sad about the departure of MGC and the Butcher at some point, but a) I'm enjoying his Animal Upstairs project, b) I'm curious to hear the new album without their influences, and c) I feel like, if there's any truth to the rumors about how Tomrad was given the heave-ho, we should enjoy some irony.

+ Time to settle into bed and set the TV so that I fall asleep watching today's French Open matches. I hear Rafa's match against Isner was more epic than it should've been? And that Nando's hair is making the FO its last stand?

+ I mentioned this in an email to [livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not and [livejournal.com profile] jmc_bks. The world doesn't need more schmoop, right? But Expandthis pic cries out for it )

+ Last random thought for the day. Why did hero_living follow me back on twitter? I enjoy Rudy's (or whoever posts in lieu of Rudy) positive thoughts, but I didn't realize they followed people back. :/ Fourth wall, I like you.
asimplechord: (i love you)
Seems like life sucks for a lot of my f-list right now. Money woes, work woes, personal woes, all kinds of woes.

I love you all, and even if we're only passingly acquainted, I hope I can make your day better, even if it's just a little bit of a smile to interrupt your frown.

So comment here, and I'll tell you something about you that makes me happy, makes me smile.

1. Ugh, busy. Other than email chain and popping in to see individual LJ entries, I haven't had much time to spend on the interwebs. Have I missed anything important that y'all haven't sent me in the aforementioned email chains?

2. Dear Playbill, it's awesome that you're interviewing Stark Sands about his role in American Idiot, but it'd be even MORE awesome if you spelled Billie Joe Armstrong's name correctly.

3. ♥ Butch Walker + Shane Valdes. It's a marriage of music/film geeks.

4. Did anyone else watch the premier of Treme the other night? I had some thinky thoughts about it - from the style that David Simon et al. seem to favor to John Goodman's character (and his character's daughter) to the living conditions of the upper middle class white folk to the people of color to the presence of Elvis Costello and the Rebirth Brass Band - but my brain is too tired translate the chicken-scratch notes I took as I watched. (Srsly, Aaron laughed when I got my pen and paper out.)

5. There are some ridiculously attractive men being photographed at Monte Carlo. And those same men are even playing tennis. *crosses fingers for Rafa and HotSauce*

6. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] eckerlilas in about 15 minutes. I hope 33 is the best year yet. :)

Yesterday was a really long, really shitty day for me. Today has been only marginally better. I know plenty of people on my f-list are having similarly craptacular days/weeks.

So.

Comment here and I'll tell you something I love about you, something about you that intrigues me, something about you that makes me or others smile. SOMETHING POSITIVE.

Got it?

Ready, set, GO!

+ Being a homeowner is a drain on the pocketbook and time. Seriously, I yearn for the days when I could just call the landlord or building manager when something went wrong. Now? The siding of the garage needs to be replaced. Not a difficult job, really; we should be able to do it in one weekend. We got the trim down and MrIris refitted a stud so we could widen the door. I think the rest of it is going to have to be done by him and someone else, though. It's better for the state of our marriage that we don't do some things together, and using power tools in small spaces is one of those things.

+ Two postcards arrived in one day! One from the inlaws, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary with a trip to Alaska, and one from [livejournal.com profile] a_carnal_mink. Babe, Chuck's behavior with Cammy during his marriage? Totally fits my definition of tacky.

+ Thumbs down for The Incredible Hulk. How did they talk Edward Norton into doing that? Also, dear comic book artists/authors/directors, please to be finding a scientific advisor to explain when your sci-fi surpasses fictional and becomes utterly ludicrous. Somehow Bruce Banner's own brain and blood cells became a gamma radiation source after exposure to a laser? And a single tube of blood can magically be replicated to liters and liters of gamma-containing blood? Your science makes my brain hurt, and it was already reeling from the terrible dialogue and cliches.

+ Stone Temple Pilots this weekend. *cough*

+ Also. Tabby finished the Tom/Jon/Cassie thing that we started as textporn ages ago, and she made it HOT, okay? Go, read 8 x 10. (Warning for girl parts.)

+ Jeremy Scahill on Wednesday. *fangirls again*

• I slacked too much to post January's most-listened-to mix at the time, but I spent this afternoon compiling it and February's as well. Shut up, I was hungover and that was as much as my brain could handle.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] a_carnal_mink! ♥ and hugs

I hope it's fabulous. :)

There's a multitude of things I meant to post about.

1. Voting for the 2007 OWL Awards has commenced and will continue through the end of the month.

Links:

Rules and FAQ. (no log in needed to access the Award info and help desk)

Vote. (must be signed in to access the ballot)

Also, thanks to whoever nominated Death Eater's Wife in the Something The Dark Lord Made category.

2. There was a valentine in my mailbox this morning! [livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not, there's a huge supply of those for you, too! :D

3. Anybody know what's up with the TAI show listed for 12April at the Warehouse on last.fm? I can't find any info on it at the Warehouse's site (it's not on their calendar), their mailing list, LiveNation, Ticketmaster, the Houston Free Press, TAI's website or myspace, or the FBR site. (I haven't done more than a cursory search of their myspace, because I despise myspace's layout. It makes my brain bleed.)

4. Expandpolitical matter below the fold )

ETA 5. Dude. We have a cupboard under the stairs in my house. I've lived here how long and only just connected the extra closet with that phrase? MrIris was running around getting ready for a business trip, and I'm getting ready for work, and he couldn't find a specific jacket, so I asked him if it was in the closet. "What closet?" he asked, since he'd checked the bedroom ones. "The one under the stairs." A fit of giggles followed when I realized what I said, which he did not appreciate. Now I need fic where Harry lives next to the odd sports equipment, vacuum, and mop that occupy that cupboard, and acts like a cloak-check boy. :)

[livejournal.com profile] a_carnal_mink? Brace yourself.

Because it's been a craptacular day all the way around, I'm in the mood for some lovin'.

So. Comment with your name, friends, and I'll tell you something I admire, like, love about you, something about you that makes me smile.

[livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not, being generous and creative and talented, took drabble prompts the other night.

I requested Reid/Hotch, restraint, hug at the end of Revelations. And even though she totally does not ship Hotch/Reid, she indulged me.

The drabble is here, along with a couple of SPN and HP drabbles she wrote. And even more of her gift drabbles are here.

In other news (although I am not at all sure it's new), I totally fail at LJ and fandom and life right now. But I'm trying to get back on track. Stuff to be edited, stuff to be written, and poll data (from aaages ago) to analyze and post. And a reader commentary about John Amaechi's book and the kerfluffle it caused in the NBA world last week to draft. Posts to comment on, comments to reply to. All that good stuff.

So what's happened lately that I missed?

Random icon use, because I'm suffering hockey withdrawal lately. Nothing but football's been on the tube at my home for the last week.

Anyway. While I waited for my gel to finish running, I thought I'd check the f-list.

And... good things, man!

1. The [livejournal.com profile] merry_smutmas reveal is up, and my guess as to my Secret Santa is correct: [livejournal.com profile] glockgal created the utterly fabulous One particular morning for me. If you haven't already seen it, go take a peek. It's not work safe, but it'll get you worked up! (Just as a warning for any new friends, the art in question is a piece of smokin' hot goodness with explicit Fred/Harry/George slash.)

Tonight, perhaps, if I get home at a decent hour, I'll go over my fic and post it at [livejournal.com profile] twinspiration.

(Heh. Ya know, if you look at the tags for the fest, you realize that Fred/George only appears once, but Fred/George/other appears three times. Do they only get naughty with a third party, in most readers' eyes? I'd love to think about that, in terms of what feels comfortable for twincest as a pair vs. in a threesome.)

2. Some anonymous person put my name in the love meme. ♥

From [livejournal.com profile] f13tch3r, a meme that appears remarkably like the one [livejournal.com profile] mimiheart wrote awhile back, which I forgot to do.

1. Do we know each other outside of LJ?
2. What's your philosophy on life?
3. Would you have my back in a fight?
4. Would you keep a secret from me if you thought it was in my best interest?
5. What is your favorite memory of us?
6. Would you give me a kidney?
7. Tell me one odd/interesting fact about you:
8. Would you take care of me when I'm sick?
9. Can we get together and make a cake?
10. Have you heard any rumors of me lately?
11. Do you/have you talk(ed) crap about me?
12. Do you think I'm a good person?
13. Would you drive across country with me?
14. Do you think I'm attractive?
15. If you could change anything about me, would you?
16. What do you wear to sleep?
17. Would you come over for no reason just to hang out?
18. Would you go on a date with me if i asked you?
19. If I only had one day to live, what would we do together?
20. Will you repost this so i can fill it out for you?

And since that seems a wee bit self-centered, here's another one, this time for you. Shamelessly stolen from [livejournal.com profile] janicechess and [livejournal.com profile] anael. (Heh, I like the giving but am not so keen on beggin' for affection. What does that say about my personality?)

1. Reply to this post if you want me to tell you how cool you are!
2. Watch my journal over the next few days for a post just about you and why you rock my socks.
3. Post these instructions in your journal and give your friends a much-needed dose of love and adoration!
If you want.
