Apr. 21st, 2013 09:00 am+ Bush. Reliving my university years, musically. Still, the bassline to Come Down will always make me pause to listen.
+ People watching at BuzzFest XXX. Worth the price of admission.
- My knee is swollen and my calf is super tight. Ugh. Maybe I'll do something lower impact this afternoon.
+ The Aeros made the playoffs! They need to win tonight and the Checkers to lose if they want home-ice for the first round (doubtful), but whatever. Playoffs for their last season in Houston!
+ Mostly cleaned up the coffeeshop AU, so that might be posted soon?
+
why_me_why_not is the best. Last night I texted her I need someone to tell the story of Jeff Skinner, Secret Romantic. His favorite book is essentially an adventure/romance! The rest of the guys laugh about him taking dates to see chick flicks, but he actually doesn't mind? (Also, he gets laid a lot because ladies think he's sweet and sensitive on top of being a hot young athlete, so he wins all the way around. And, predictably, we spewed ideas at each other on the topic until long past we both should have been asleep.
+ Rafa's making a come back (crossing my fingers, anyway) in his match against Djokovic at Monte Carlo. Vamos!

Mar. 19th, 2013 07:10 amSo this happened. (LOL, "Each sent the Moody Theater audience -- which seemed more local and more fan-heavy than most SXSW crowds -- into howls and even some moshing." Because the pit was composed almost entirely of Green Day fans who guaranteed that if they got tickets, they would show up, else be blacklisted to future events.)
I missed FOB, but I think Green Day was a worthwhile exchange.
( And then this happened. )
I returned home to find that Aaron hadn't suffered a relapse (he was just whining about being left to entertain himself), ( and this happened )
And I posted some fic: Celebration's impossible, genderswap hockey RPF, filling the "celebratory kiss" square on my trope bingo card.
One other good thing? BRMC's new album is out, synced to my iPod for the day's listening.
Now I'm going to go do some lab work, and tonight's the Revival Tour's stop in H-town. And possibly ponder vampire or werewolf fic. (Or porn.) It's Tabby's fault. And she's awesome for it. :)

No change in personal health, really, although I joined a gym and have started a weekly training session to mark/enforce progress.

Dec. 30th, 2012 09:43 am~ Finally saw Skyfall. Things that did not impress: a) disjointed plot, b) utter waste of Javier Bardem's talent, c) sad restoration of no-point-plotwise sex w/ female antagonist, d) lack of story-telling on the Skyfall backstory.
Things that did: a) Judi Dench, b) Bond's "what makes you think it's my first time", c) Moneypenny.
~ Also saw The Hobbit. It was entertaining enough, but I thought parts of it, especially some of the fighting, could've been edited for drag. Also, I don't remember Armitage being such a bad actor in previous works.
+ Read The Disappearing Spoon. Some of the chemistry explanations are basic, but the history of the people being the discoveries and establishment of the period table were pretty cool. Best metaphor ever: comparison of Knowles' chiral catalyst and bulky substrate binding and reacting to obese animals trying to copulate. THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY THAT'LL FIT!
+ Finished James Duthie's The Day I (Almost) Killed Two Gretzkys. Some of the stories are funnier than others, but the ones that made me pause most were the ones he wrote from late 2004 to mid-2005, about the NHL lockout. Sadly relevant.
+ All the
yagkyas stories are posted and the authors have been revealed.
impala_chick wrote me the cutest fic, Computer Lab. It's an AU where Walt is a second grade teacher and Brad is the IT/AV person for his school. Go read it, it's adorable!
~ I wrote gen fic about Rudy Reyes. Talk About Your Revolution, at YAGKYAS or at AO3. It was a stretch for me, because I hardly ever write gen or about Rudy. Read the note/warning, because I used what Wright had to say about Rudy's childhood as the basis for this fic.
- On the subject of holiday exchanges, what's up with
happyhockeydays? It's been pretty sad: six fics posted over 9 or 10 days? Did the mods fall into the holiday cracks? Did people not submit fics? I'd like to know, just so I can post the fic I wrote publically. (Or not. I might rewrite it. And by rewrite, I really just mean add the porn that I didn't have time to write and still meet the submission deadline. If I'd known that posting was going to be delayed and lackadaisical, I wouldn't have worked so hard to submit on time.)

It's lack of porn that fucks countries up. Lack of porn is the root fucking cause of all global instability. (Or: Ray’s ultimate career choice is down to Brad and Walt.)
[
schlicky, I plotted an entire alternate reality Casablanca crossover, where the civil war never ended b/c the Confederacy never invaded the Union - Ray was the equivalent of Sam, Brad was Rick, and Nate was Ilsa - but I fail at follow-through, and that's why you got something specific for the picture without much plot. Sorry, bb.]
♣ Killer Elite. IDK, I was expecting one thing, given the content of the trailers I'd seen, and what the movie delivered was... not quite that? Not bad. Clive Owen and Jason Statham got to be bad-asses, with lots of fighting, anyway.
♣ Finished reading the book about the Rehnquist/Roberts Court. I should probably move on to Oryx and Crake, since a bunch of friends are doing a bookclub and that's the next book, but I have Rafa and CJ Chivers' The Gun and Ilona Andrews' On the Edge, so I'm having a hard time settling on a single book.
♣ New seasons of Criminal Minds and Castle both started this week. I thought both were fairly predictable, but at least with Criminal Minds premiere, that story arc is finished. I’ve never been particularly fond of JJ as a character, but the way that CBS got rid of her and Prentiss was cheap, and now that they’re back hopefully the show will go back to episodic individual cases, which I much prefer.
♣ Houston BestFest is happening in midtown this weekend! Local bands plus national ones. (Against Me! :D :D :D CAKE :D :D :D) 10-10 today, 10-8 tomorrow. Rail service is cancelled b/c of construction in the med center (again), but if parking is full near the park, there’s still a bus that will get you there.

Apr. 13th, 2011 07:28 am1. So, that happened last night. I love it when they troll us. And I wonder if Zack encourages it or yells at them for killing fangirls (and parts of the internet) dead with their antics.
2. There is tennis on my TV and coffee in my mug and
eckerlilas linked to a finished 70k fic on the TSN kinkmeme, so I am so totally not getting to work on time today. (My desire to go to work is inversely proportional to all the stuff I have to do. Maybe you've noticed this? I'm feeling sort of stressed about all the experiments I have to do for 3 separate projects, and I haven't even told my boss yet that I'm taking the Friday and Monday of Easter weekend off - not for any religious reason, but because we're going to NYC to see The Book of Mormon and the very last show of American Idiot, and because we haven't had a weekend away where A's away from his work Blackberry in a long time.)
3. I created an account at AO3! LJ's lack of reliability the last couple of weeks made me decide to archive fic, and since I don't even know if OWL's affiliate archives are still open (and even if they are they absolutely don't take RPF), I figured I should choose an alternative. Of course, this means actually re-reading some of the fic I wrote YEARS AGO, and I am seriously facepalming at myself. OMGWTF was I thinking?
OK. I have a tab of fic that I promised
why_me_why_not I'd beta two days ago, and there's the TSN fic to read, and Rafa is now on screen in all his Un-Cola glory, so I should get going on my morning activities, yes?

Dec. 29th, 2010 06:52 pmI have a ton of random snippets of fic that will never be rounded out into actual stories. In an effort to clear my hard-drive (and because my OCD and antisocial tendencies needed indulgence after a week in a loud, disorganized, people-occupied place) I spent the last hour deciding what to toss and what I might reasonably work on. That stuff is staying.
These are the snippets of stuff that I finally admit will never be written in their entirety.
( Bandom, Brendon/Spencer, Pure Country AU. Outlined, but only one scene actually written. )
( Brendon/Regan/Shane. Yeah, this is NEVER getting finished. Ever. )
( Brendon/Spencer, bandom firefighter/EMT AU )
( GK, Brad/OFC with Brad/Nate UST )

Walt/Brad || 2637 words || adult
Complete fiction, meant to imply absolutely nothing about any real people whose names or faces served as inspiration.
Nothing but irredeemable porn here. Part of a college AU that is largely unwritten as yet, but should stand alone since there's no real plot to speak of. This ficlet started life as a drabble for

Fiction, obviously. Based on portrayals in the series, and implying nothing about any real people.
The story behind #12 of10 Some Things About Bradley Ann Colbert. This was supposed to be an exercise in writing straight-up porn, since I've been having ~issues with that lately. That is not quite what happened. So we get porny schmoop. And I need to shift it out of the "in progress" folder to the "posted fic & ficlets" one, so you get it as is, entirely unbeta'd. No one to blame but me and my brain for this one. Title and cut text are from Audioslave's Be Yourself.

the proper post I alluded to earlier
Sep. 26th, 2010 02:19 pma) There was a great deal of TV-watching this week. Most of it was delayed, as Aaron was on a business trip, and I've managed to con him into watching House, Criminal Minds, Castle, Supernatural, and The Big C with me. ( cut for spoilers )
b) I'm still trying to see if I can get a refund for the Austin STP/BRMC show. *sigh* Like I told people in the email chain, The Backyard refuses to refund money for a rescheduled show, and they force purchasers to give a ticket-holder's name to match to ID, so I don't know if I can sell them. I sent them an email, but got a form "thanks for your inquiry" reply. If I can't sell them, I guess I'll sell the Bush tickets for that same night, since they're plain old TM tickets. In either case, I am not ever giving The Backyard my money again. (As an aside, I am not even slightly surprised that STP had to delay the tour. They were an hour late coming on stage last week, and Scott Weiland was clearly altered, a train wreck waiting to happen.)
c) Ludo and Tommy & The High Pilots were awesome. I'm sorry that my body decided to hate me yesterday so that I couldn't drive to Austin to see them a second time. But Tommy et al. will be back in December, so.
d) Even though I know I cannot go, I have priced tickets to NYC for the weekend, just so that I could see Billie Joe Armstrong as St. Jimmy. This is so so SO wrong.
e) I posted fic! Five moments in the birth and maturation of a "thing". (Sorry, it's community-locked. I'll post it at my fic journal or here shortly and link to it again.) Generation Kill, Mike Wynn/OFC, adult, ~2600 words. Mike is a leg man, okay?
