How have I lived this long without Die Mommie Die in my life? Just, how?

Tunny is a super-sekrit American Idol fan, y/n? Will thinks it's hilarious that there's a playlist of Kris Allen and Adam Lambert songs hidden amongst the Black Flag and Rancid.

Totally unrelated: Americans? If you have an opinion on DADT, call your senator and tell them so TODAY, because Harry Reid's trying to bring the defense authorization bill to the floor for a vote tonight, with the DADT repeal clause still attached. ETA: Dead until tomorrow, at this point.

ETA2: Dead totally, unless Joe Lieberman (Lieberman. My O_O, let me show you them.) works some magic in a stand-alone bill.

I can't figure out what it is that makes me ambivalent about this photo. click for GQMF )

Prompt me.

1. Unpopular fandom opinion: I am not fond of Gee Way with that blond hair. And WTF is up with the Hawaiian shirt? Also, I'm glad he's successful and all with The Umbrella Academy, but GIMME THAT NEW ALBUM, GODDAMNIT.

2. [livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not's brain is my favorite place to be. Somehow even though we're not writing fic, we're... writing fic? We've sort of got two Generation Kill-related fic universes going in an email chain, one gen and one decidedly not. It's been my happy place for a few days.

3. Taddy Porter, my new favorite band (for a little while, until Discos GIMME THAT NEW MUSIC). First, because they're named after a beer. And second, because they are trying to be a cross between Led Zeppelin and Bad Company. Third, because the bassist is this tiny redhead who rocks the fuck out when they are on stage.

4. I want someone to tell me the story of Gunny Wynn when 1st Recon redeployed to Iraq, when Bravo Company was assigned with the rest of the battalion to Fallujah, and it's like the invasion all over again, doing things that even Battalion Command isn't happy with, ignoring the plan they'd laid out in favor of an emotional, intemperate response at the behest of JTF and the Commander-in-chief. I want the story of Gunny Wynn in a unit that has no Nate Fick (although he'll allow that Brent Morel isn't a bad platoon commander), no Brad Colbert, no Ray Person, no Poke, no Reporter, no Pappy, but does have Redman and Kocher and Hasser, at least. NOT the story of what happens when Morel, Eddie Wright and Kocher are injured by an IED. But I'd like someone's view of whether it'd be at all different, going with different personnel, as an occupation rather than an invasion. Compared to his experience in Somalia, for example.

5. I am very curious to see what Danger Room and Best Defense have to say about the WikiLeaks release of the Afghanistan War Logs tomorrow. Mostly because the headlines over at The Guardian... are not earthshatteringly unsuspected. Pakistan's ISI has links to the Taliban? SHOCKING. Maybe, though, making Americans (or Britons, or whoever) more aware will make them more participatory in their government, and say something about tax dollars and soldiers (and civilians) being used so wastefully. Maybe? Yeah, doubtful, right?

6. Stark Bunker Sands, you are ridiculously adorkable, and still I can't help but be charmed by you.

The trip to NYC with [livejournal.com profile] vic_ramsey was AWESOME. There was Butch Walker, and [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane & [livejournal.com profile] wordsalone & [livejournal.com profile] munkykiss & [livejournal.com profile] danacias and dinosaurs (at AMNH) and Magna Carta and American Idiot. I forgot to take my camera, so I have no photos; I'll probably make a post babbling about Butch Walker (and Locksley) and AI at some point. But I am currently watching last week's episodes of House, Criminal Minds, and Castle. Mostly because I am procrastinating about exercising and admitting that I have to go to work tomorrow.

The French Open has started. I eagerly await Rafa and FeVer and Feli photos and gossip. To spam y'all with, of course. ;)

(Also? HI, MGG, Spencer Reid's new haircut looks GOOD on you. Work the tousled sex-hair look!)

:( The sample elevator in the Cs source is still non-functional. The repair company had not even scheduled their visit when I called Radiation Safety this afternoon, so two of my three experiments are trashed. I re-worked the third one, so I can do something else with those samples. Yay, I guess. The Chief will not be amused to hear this quand il revient.

:( Why aren't Something Corporate coming to Houston? There's an empty day between Dallas and their last Florida date! (Yes, I realize they need to travel. *sigh*)

:) The bartender at happy hour needed to check some bottles of Amarone - someone stored them in the 'fridge, rather than the wine cooler or the room-temp shelf, and he was worried that they were corked - so instead of the normal house red, tonight's wine was AMAZING.

:) Also, risotto.

:) I am still ridiculously amused by this photo )

:( A friend is having a party and Say Anything/Angels & Airwaves are at HOB tomorrow, but I think I have to bail on both, b/c I need to pack a bag and take care of some other errands.

:DDDD [livejournal.com profile] vic_ramsey and I leave Wednesday night for NYC. We are going to see Butch Walker and American Idiot and [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane and other fanppl ([livejournal.com profile] wordsalone? [livejournal.com profile] danacias?). I am going to see Magna Carta. MAGNA CARTA. *flails incoherently for a few minutes* And there are a couple of Picasso exhibits happening, plus some other stuff.

I am excited. Just a little bit. OK, that's a massive understatement. I AM GLEEFUL, OK? Didn't I tell you that I'd cry travel to see Butch Walker if he didn't come to TX on this tour? Plus, AI. Gimme that Tony Vincent and John Gallagher Jr and SSands!

1. [livejournal.com profile] we_pimpin. My brain is so wrong. It's poking me to write Ray/Dirty Earl fic for the Ray/Rare Pair challenge. (Ray's been exploited by his betters. And he enjoyed it, okay? STFU.)

2. I am intrigued by skater boys, but their sparkle and bitchery has not inspired me to write. Or to break my no WIPs rule. BBB needs to get here soon and jump-start my fandom participation again.

3. None of these are new pictures, not really. And they're not bandom or skaters, they're tennis dudes and actors. But here: pictures that have made me happy for the last few days )

4. What I've been listening to lately. Again, not necessarily new. Track listing, not necessarily in order. )

5. I recorded Letterman again last night for The Hold Steady's performance (gimme that new album, boys!) and there was bonus David Beckham. I don't really care what he was talking about - he is very pretty. And his suit was also very pretty.

OK. I'm going to go run a few miles. *puts on the Citius, Altius, Fortius mix*

Hope y'all are having a good weekend. ♥

1. Ugh, busy. Other than email chain and popping in to see individual LJ entries, I haven't had much time to spend on the interwebs. Have I missed anything important that y'all haven't sent me in the aforementioned email chains?

2. Dear Playbill, it's awesome that you're interviewing Stark Sands about his role in American Idiot, but it'd be even MORE awesome if you spelled Billie Joe Armstrong's name correctly.

3. ♥ Butch Walker + Shane Valdes. It's a marriage of music/film geeks.

4. Did anyone else watch the premier of Treme the other night? I had some thinky thoughts about it - from the style that David Simon et al. seem to favor to John Goodman's character (and his character's daughter) to the living conditions of the upper middle class white folk to the people of color to the presence of Elvis Costello and the Rebirth Brass Band - but my brain is too tired translate the chicken-scratch notes I took as I watched. (Srsly, Aaron laughed when I got my pen and paper out.)

5. There are some ridiculously attractive men being photographed at Monte Carlo. And those same men are even playing tennis. *crosses fingers for Rafa and HotSauce*

6. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] eckerlilas in about 15 minutes. I hope 33 is the best year yet. :)

Julia Roberts as the lead, if Tom Hanks turns American Idiot into a movie.

I'd sorta hoped they'd use the cast from the live performances mostly because I want to see more Stark Sands on-screen.

Unrelated: whyyyyyy aren't The Whigs playing Houston on this tour? WHY? /whinge

I'm happy to hear Stark Sands sing or see him perform. And I'm sure his girl loves that he sings for her. But Billie Jean did not need to be remade with acoustic guitar like the intro to Metallica's Nothing Else Matters.

1. VH1's Behind The Music returns tonight with Metallica's story. I'm sure that if you've seen Some Kind of Monster, it won't be ground-breaking info, but I'm curious to see what an impartial viewer has to say about the Metallica/Dave Mustaine rift.

2. Them Crooked Vultures are performing on SNL tonight. :D :D :D Dave Grohl on drums makes me happy. :D :D :D

3. G Love & Special Sauce are at Warehouse Live tonight. Aaron has expressed an interest in attending, and he never asks about shows other than The Gourds, so that's where we'll be. Door at 8pm, show at 9pm.

4. Fangirl hangtimes this afternoon! Gonna go see [livejournal.com profile] eckerlilas and her bbs and [livejournal.com profile] shutyourface, eat some brownies (mmm, my house smells sweet), and watch a bunch of last season's Idol episodes (since I didn't watch any of them when they originally aired).

5. It is sunny here for the first time in a week. I'm sorry it's less pleasant elsewhere. (I heard a rumor from J: she couldn't get her door more than halfway open b/c of the weight and depth of the snow in Baltimore. Ugh. DNmiss that at all.)

6. I put down Meals To Come b/c I am shallow and easily distracted. Must remember to pick it back up when I'm done reading Jarhead.

7. [livejournal.com profile] vic_ramsey, we need to pick out a weekend to go to NYC and see American Idiot and this )

8. I really DO need to write out my [livejournal.com profile] bandomvalentine fic now. It's due in 9 days. Ugh, someone force me to type it out. Or, you know, I can dictate it to you and you can type it.

1. How is Alex Suarez simultaneously such a nerd and a hotass?

via suareasy

2. JFC, Stark Sands in American Idiot. I might need to visit NYC for this. I'm definitely watching the Grammy's for it.

3. Sometimes people suck. Srsly:
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's personal storage locker was broken into and Michael Been's (Robert's dad and our sound man) had his vintage equipment stolen. Items were 1954 Fender Esquire (Yellow with Black Pick Guard), 1968 Ampeg Scrolltop Fretless Bass, 1964 Black Fender Precision Bass and a 1968 Gretsch Country Gentleman Single Cutaway. Please repost this and help spread the word - these items were extremely personal and the band, Michael, crew and management are devastated over this brazen act. Thank you.

4. My sister gave me her copy of Twilight. I keep meaning to read it for its bad-fic qualities and for mocking purposes, but somehow never get to it. Instead, I'm re-reading the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries (Well, I originally only read the first three. But I found cheap used copies of the next few, so I'm reading them, too). I can't quite bring myself to watch True Blood, but I'm enjoying imagining Alexander Skarsgard as Eric. Mostly, as I read, I'm annoyed at how Harris brutalizes or assaults her narrator over and over and over again, physically, emotionally, and sexually. Is the TV show as consistently violent as the books? I watched a grand total of five minutes before turning it off, sometime back in the first season.

5. I have three episodes of House, plus last week's SPN to watch yet. *sigh* So far behind. But I *did* watch this week's White Collar. Pretty Neil is pretty.
