+ [livejournal.com profile] eckerlilas wins tonight! ♥ I hope she, [livejournal.com profile] shutyourface, [livejournal.com profile] fiddleyoumust, [livejournal.com profile] ericaplease, and [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane (and others I'm sure I'm forgetting) had an awesome time at the Discos' show tonight. PICS OF THE STEAM PUNK KIT, I WANT THEM!

+ Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] harriet_vane! Here's to a new year, full of exciting travel plans and a new place and hopefully lots of positive thoughts and events!

+ Spent the day wigged out because I couldn't remember the last time I'd seen my wedding ring. I don't even wear it 99% of the time, but when I was digging out earrings to wear this morning I didn't see it in its spot, and I couldn't figure out when I'd last worn it or where I might've put it. Searched before work, then after work I dug through all backpacks, bags, totes, and pockets before finding it.

All that stress for a hunk of pressed metal and crystal?

+ Spent half my work day using one of the department's confocal microscopes. IDK, it's good that the manager wants to help me learn the system, but she's a physicist, not a cell biologist, so I'm not sure that her advice will give me the result that I need. But at least I know now how to work the set-up, and I didn't bleach my samples, so I can always sign up for more time and re-acquire images with a higher magnification and redefining the original Z plane where I want, rather than where she thinks the cells look best.

+ Hey, new Against Me! album. I'm enjoying you. (Even though you're just different recordings/demos from Searching for a Former Clarity.)

+ Billie Joe Armstrong's teenaged sons have a band? And he produced their first album? I can't decide if I'm intrigued or if that convinces me even more that it's all about who you know.

+ So TAI's following in the footsteps of other DD/FBR bands? I'm sure I'll be sad about the departure of MGC and the Butcher at some point, but a) I'm enjoying his Animal Upstairs project, b) I'm curious to hear the new album without their influences, and c) I feel like, if there's any truth to the rumors about how Tomrad was given the heave-ho, we should enjoy some irony.

+ Time to settle into bed and set the TV so that I fall asleep watching today's French Open matches. I hear Rafa's match against Isner was more epic than it should've been? And that Nando's hair is making the FO its last stand?

+ I mentioned this in an email to [livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not and [livejournal.com profile] jmc_bks. The world doesn't need more schmoop, right? But this pic cries out for it.

(From TRicks' blog last week)

Brad isn't a dog person, right? But the bomb-sniffing dog for his team in Afghanistan has puppies, and one imprints on him instead of its mom. He ends up naming it Person, per [livejournal.com profile] why_me_why_not's suggestion.

How hard do you think he ends up working to get Person not disposed of, and then get the pup home when he redeploys? And what does Ray (or better yet, Nate) say when they get there? Yeah. This is my brain on schmoop.

+ Last random thought for the day. Why did hero_living follow me back on twitter? I enjoy Rudy's (or whoever posts in lieu of Rudy) positive thoughts, but I didn't realize they followed people back. :/ Fourth wall, I like you.

Lol, [livejournal.com profile] eckerlilas totally wins. Idk how she managed to call all of us, but I love her for it! :) I'm pretty sure [livejournal.com profile] danacias was there with them?

also, hey! why does this entry get a blame me tag? you started the puppy thing!! you didn't really expect me to discourage it, did you? ;)

From: [identity profile] asimplechord.livejournal.com
B/c that is my only Tabby tag? SOMEONE was supposed to discourage it! (Although really that's usually J's job when it comes to other stuff.)

I guess I'll accept that, lol. You're lucky I'm not encouraging actually fic that you can post just so I can slip in information about Operation Baghdad Pups or The Puppy Rescue Mission or something. :P

I am still trying to decide what to write for your last prompt. I had a thought but I got busy and didn't write it down, and now it's gone, pouf, out of my head. Maybe this weekend? A's gone until the 2nd, so I am having a me weekend. :)

I don't even remember what my prompt was. But I do that - if I don't write it down, I lose it, and it was usually something good! Also, I have 5000 words of unintentional fic that I've written in the past week or so. Oops?

Date: 2011-05-25 06:39 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asimplechord.livejournal.com
Original fic, or fandom-related? Either way, yay for 5000 words!

Date: 2011-05-25 06:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] why-me-why-not.livejournal.com
ha. um, fandom-related. but not a fandom I'm in? Lol.

Date: 2011-05-25 06:49 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asimplechord.livejournal.com
Well, if you're writing it, aren't you by definition in it? :P

(Why, yes, I am avoiding going back into lab.)

Date: 2011-05-25 06:51 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] why-me-why-not.livejournal.com
not necessarily? *g* (one of those "I'm not writing in this fandom!" kinda things? until I suddenly have a million words of story and am asking you to beta it, lol)

(at least your week is half over? and you get a three day weekend, right?)

Date: 2011-05-25 06:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asimplechord.livejournal.com
LOL, THAT kind of not-in-this-fandom. I see. :D

YES. And I am going to veg out all weekend, me and the cats, after I get whatever household chores done that need doing.

Date: 2011-05-25 06:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] why-me-why-not.livejournal.com
I'm good at that, it seems. But there was a story that I wanted that I can't find ANYWHERE and got stuck writing it myself. *sigh* Why won't fandom cater to me?

That sounds awesome! Not the household chores part, lol, but the vegging out with the cats. My dad's trying to talk us into spending part of the weekend at the lake but idk if I can handle that. But my brother is going out of town for the Charlotte race, so I have his kids all weekend. I don't see my weekend being much relaxful.

Nate doesn’t say anything when he comes through the door and sees Person, cowering, backed up atop Brad’s boots. It’s one of the reasons Brad loves him.

Setting his duffle and laptop case down, his keys, Nate folds into a sitting position in the entryway, one long-fingered hand (also high on the list) out for Person to sniff. Then he waits, easily, like there’s nothing else he’d rather be doing.

The mutt doesn’t stand a chance.

Brad quits worrying about how to broach the topic of whether the lease on Nate’s shitty apartment allows pets, and starts wondering how long before he’s completely replaced in Person’s affections.

Then he goes to grab the furball already climbing over Nate’s legs and deposit him behind the gate in the kitchen. Brad’s got some affection of his own to give.

♥__♥

YES.

Brad decides that is a sign of good taste that Person loves Nate as much as he does - he can hardly blame the puppy for sharing his weakness, right? Person obeys the LT's softly voiced commands with more alacrity than he ever did Brad's stern ones, which makes Brad think that he really does share a lot of similarities with his namesake.

(Agreed on all counts.)

“So what’s his name?” Nate asks, later.

“Person.” Brad hopes the dog still has food and water. He’s not sure he can move.

Nate picks himself up on his elbows to look down at him. Fucking show-off. “Are you trying to give him an identity crisis?” he asks idly.

“As in Corporal,” Brad tells him, waving his hands in a series of gestures conveying hair and slobber and buck teeth. Maybe.

“The question stands.” Brad huffs a laugh. “And another: How the hell did you manage to get him back here?”

He feels his face drawing tight, going defensive. Again. For fuck’s sake, it wasn’t that big of a fucking deal, and—

This time Nate laughs, curving an arm across him, hand settling on top of Brad’s head. Lightly, he thumbs over Brad’s forehead, the tension there. “Got it,” he says, and bends his head to kiss him.

&Brad; &Nate; Oh, boys!

I am entertained by the idea that Person becomes greatly enamored of the taste and texture of Brad's Tevas, but leaves Nate's loafers and running shoes alone. Brad's boots are impenetrable and frankly taste disgusting, he learned early on.

I was going to ask if you wanted Brad/Nate or Brad/Ray, but it looks like someone else has already written schmoop for you :)

Although Ray POV on Person would be good.

Person already takes orders and behaves better than Ray, yes? Although I bet he gets Brad to hide as many or more smiles than Ray, too.

Date: 2011-05-25 11:36 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asimplechord.livejournal.com
Well, Person mostly takes orders better than Ray. Mainly because they go along with stuff he wants to do. Playing fetch, rolling over (seriously, humans and their foolish ideas; he's not sure why Brad looks so proud when he rolls around, but he gets an extra dog treat when he does, so it's all good). But he's just as likely to do the canine equivalent of an eyeroll if he hears Brad calling for him and he's not ready to get up. (The sound of Brad shaking out the leash has him running every time. It is possible that Brad uses that to his advantage.)
