I haven't been online much this week, just enough to see some headlines and some OMGNEWS in fandom and other areas.

( Because not everyone wants to read my (possibly unpopular) opinions )


Also, Tabby? Should I be writing kitchen-counter sex? Before or after I finish the belated girl!Bren fic? ETA: Also, the ExxonMobile decision made me want to work on the otter!fic again. Make me finish something before I move on to the next shiny thing.

My serious LOL moments in the last twelve hours:

1. While we were sitting in the theater before Prince Caspian started last night, I complained about the over-air-conditioned-ness and pulled on my Black Parade hoodie. MrIris asked about the MCR concerts, and somehow we got around to the fact that the MSG show was the last of the tour, and that was their last tour for a while. Somehow, he hadn't quite caught on to that when I flailed about going. (More evidence that he zones when I talk about music or books he's not interested in; that's okay, I make appropriate noises when he talks about his video games, but mostly it's in one ear and out the other.)

When he asked why the hiatus, I ennumerated the various reasons band members have cited, ending with, "And they've all got married now except the drummer, so they probably want to spend time at home being, you know, couples."

I figured he'd get that, since we spent three years living 1200 miles apart.

His response? "I thought they were all gay."

OMG you guys, I about fell out of my chair laughing.

See, it is not just slashers with tin hats who buy into it!


2. My iTunes Shuffle took me from MCR's Welcome To The Black Parade to The Five Four Of Us Are Dying by NIN. Dear Ray Toro, what would your superstitious mind tell you about that coincidence?

Three shows in. Two to go. I'll maybe actually write more about them when they're done and I can reflect more.

So many things to like about music as a hobby and as a fandom.

There's new stuff to squee about every day. ( Like... )

Anyway. This fandom. People are mostly friendly. And there are lots of shiny pretty things to admire.

But at the same time, there are some not-so-cool things. ( In which I babble about one of these things. )

∞ ( in which there is flailing and keyboard mashing )

Other good stuff?

∞ why_me_why_not has internet access again, YAY!

∞ The tattoo artist got back to me and said he should have a sketch of a design based on my description and the pic I forwarded sometime this week.

∞ Goan artichokes with naan could be served to me every night and I would not complain. EVER.

∞ In Bruges earns two thumbs up. I was expecting something dark and funny, sort of like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and it came through on the funny but even more so on the dark. Plus, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Gleeson, and Colin Farrell, with a bonus appearance by Clémence Poésy.

∞ Random: I was listening to Suzanne Vega this afternoon, and this verse made me laugh out loud:

Lamebrain Pete wants to Spit in the Sea.
He's got a cool hand but it isn't for me.
Butcher Boy thinks he'll be splitting the pot.
But I've seen what he's got and it isn't a lot.

Because, yeah, I had this mental image of TAI and FOB playing the most bizarre hand of strip poker EVER. No, Butcher, really, a pair of threes isn't going to beat anyone. Fold now, okay? We've already seen your tattoo'd ass, and we don't want your shorts, thanks.

That was before I had any wine, y'all.

I'm making a Sam Winchester playlist. I've got my own ideas (augmented by Jared Padalecki's comments and others') about what should go on it. But I'm open to suggestions.

nessime_lisen, you might be the only person here to appreciate this. Last night on my way home, the DJ at TheBuzz played some MCR (Helena, pretty much the only thing that gets airplay other than Welcome to the Black Parade, even on the "alternative rock" radio station), and when it ended, he casually mentioned rumors that MCR were planning a couple of shows in Houston and Dallas.

What? WHAT?

There's nothing about this on myspace, nothing on their website. Nothing on any of the venue websites, ticket sites, anything.

Details, man. I NEED them like a burning thing.



Oh, and you know what I just realized? The Angels and Airwaves show on Sunday night is at the same time as the Superbowl. That means MrIris won't be using his ticket.

Anybody want it? I am not staying in to watch football (that can be recorded) when there's music to be heard.

I've been so disconnected and discombobulated, I can't even describe it. But I hope everyone who celebrates had a great Halloween or Samhain. Whatever. Harvest moon was this weekend, which seems like the proper end of the year, and I've been pondering year-end type thoughts. *sigh*

But in the mean time, why_me_why_not suggested "creme brulee" as a prompt for a birthday drabble. Et voila, a birthday ficlet for/starring Frank Iero. Not part of the Epic 'verse, but bandfic nonetheless.

And the other day she posted a Jon/Spencer ficlet set in the Epic 'verse, Concentration, which was written before I went off on vacation. :)
