I haven't been online much this week, just enough to see some headlines and some OMGNEWS in fandom and other areas.

My possibly unpopular opinions:

1. Barack Obama fails. He sides with the Scalitos when it comes to the death penalty. And his stance on Israel/Palestine and Iran have become markedly more war-like in the last two weeks. I didn't have high hopes for any of the Democratic candidates who ran in the primary (as far as I can tell, they were all Republican Lite with respect to health care, ending the occupation of Iraq, and favoring the corporatocracy and military-industrial complex), and I didn't think Obama was all that progressive, but this is pitiful. PITIFUL.

2. Also? SCOTUS is made of EPIC FAIL. ExxonMobile wins, wealthy politicians win, gun-sellers win, it looks like the poor and middle class are fucked all the way around.

3. After watching their performances at Glastonbury and Hove multiple times, I must say... um, Panic(!) At The Disco? Please stop letting Ryan Ross talk between songs. PLEASE.

4. I'm waiting for fan backlash on the Toro-kid, like the crap that Pete Wentz got for not announcing the Wentz-Simpson pregnancy immediately after conception. Personally, I think it's none of our business, as fans, if he has a kid. I feel sorta squicky knowing details about their significant others if the SO isn't a public figure on their own, and that is magnified a thousand fold for any offspring. The sense of entitlement, like these people we admire are our possession and we have a right to know every detail of their lives, is one of the few things that irks me about band-fandom. Having said that... I am amused that Ray Toro finally gives us evidence that there IS a source of testosterone in MCR.

Having said that... Bob? Smoooches? Hee.

5. Reggie And The Full Effect and Leathermouth. TICKETS IN MY INBOX. The same weekend as Projekt Revolution. And Motorhead, I think. Will be a weekend made of awesome. FRAAAAANK. JAAAAMES. CHESTER. ROB BOURDON. :D

6. Jeremy Scahill is MADE OF AWESOME also.

7. Stone Temple Pilots. Tonight. How blazed do you think Scott Weiland will be when he takes the stage?

Also, Tabby? Should I be writing kitchen-counter sex? Before or after I finish the belated girl!Bren fic? ETA: Also, the ExxonMobile decision made me want to work on the otter!fic again. Make me finish something before I move on to the next shiny thing.

You are so right about Obama. I've always been put off by his stance on Israel, Palestine, and even Muslims, but this week was even more WTF! Voting has never looked more blah than it does right now.

Have fun at the concert!

I know. I'm just ready for the campaigning to be done. I want to turn off the radio and TV and not turn them on again until the second week of November.

1. I'm disappointed in Obama at the moment, myself. *sigh* Lesser of two evils is still evil. (Note: not saying he's actually, evil.. just yeah.. metaphor)

2. Agreed. Fail x 100.

4. I hope there's not a lot of backlash. I think it's adorable and awesome. I do agree with you re: not really wanting to know all that much. I hate the ownership complex some fans have. Like the whole, "you have to be exactly how I imagine you at all times or I will be sulky about your wife/kid/whatever." Super lame, and not really being a fan at all. /soapbox. And yes, SMOOOCHES.

5. Yay! I can't wait for the Reggie/Leathermouth show! :)

7. Oh man, so jealous! Have fun tonight!!! :D

My life will be complete after I hear Interstate Love Song live. :)

I get the "evil" thing. Obama is clearly preferable to the alternative. But still.

IDK. Ray was sekritly married, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the same non-reaction regarding a sekrit baby. I agree with you 100%, though. We are not entitled to this knowledge. It's none of our business. If they wanna tell us, great, but we have absolutely no right to expect it.

You know, I was thinking about that. There was so much crap when Frank and Jamia got married, and nothing about Ray and Krista. (Or was there, and I just missed it?) I was trying to figure out if it was because it was Frank, who is always very public and interacts alot with fans, vs. Ray, who as far as I can tell tends to be less interactive except in interviews and when discussing music? Just differences in their public personas that make fans react to them differently?

I barely even heard people talk about Ray getting married, let alone being stupid about it. I dunno why that would be other than the reasons you mentioned.

Because Ray Toro's thighs, hot as they are, don't inspire fangirls to the brink of lustful insanity the way Frank's antics do, thus making him less popular as a sex symbol and more liked simply for being a musician?

Ray having a sekrit kid makes me delighted for all of them. And I can totally see why he would want to keep it under wraps; I'm just vaguely surprised that he managed it, y'know?

Bob and his "smoooches" will forever be remembered in bandom.

Frank is still my favoritest.

AND YES TO COUNTER SEX! I don't know how to make you finish things when I fail at that myself. And there is SO MUCH SHINY that needs to be written! But I'll email you about the teamnakedpics thing b/c I can't figure out how to work the two POVs. And then you can have it so I can try to finish something else. haha

I'm happy for him (and amazed by his stealth), I just wonder what the overall fan reaction is, if it is marginally more mature than the folks who were so vocal about Pete and Ashlee's pregnancy.

:D Frank is still the awesomest ever. AND HE'S COMING TO HOUSTON. :D

Do you want to have back and forth POVs? I"ll see what I can do.

what I read about it was more shock at him being able to keep it a secret and happiness for him and Krista.

I'M SO JEALOUS!!

I thought about that, but it's so heavily Spencer-ified that I think it would balance out so I switched most of what we had talked about to Spencer POV. But now I've hit a roadblock. I emailed it.
