(unpopular?) fandom opinion again

So many things to like about music as a hobby and as a fandom.
There's new stuff to squee about every day.
Like the new Green Day DVD, which might maybe hopefully be waiting for me when I get home tonight. :)
Like the fact that Warped ticket presale starts Friday. *squeaks happily*
And like last night's Cobra Starship performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Dear Gabe,
The 80s are gone, and the fashion? Good riddance. Please don't try to bring it back. Even as a statement, 'kay? But thanks for making Ryland and Alex and VickyT look so good. And yes! Finally I could SEE Nate playing.
I love you anyway,
Me
Our local network affiliate fails, though, because they cut away to freakin' paid programming when The City Is At War was just starting.
Aside: I think I got J hooked on CS after taking her to see the RRRGL show. She bought Viva la cobra!, and yesterday she emailed to ask about Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is. SCORE!
Today I'm also all smiley because of the Ray Toro's Kerrang interview. From other stuff I've seen, he seems like a genuinely nice guy, and his FLW blurb shores up my opinion. He uses "my fiancee" everywhere he can, like he's so excited and proud and happy that his GF said yes. It's cute. I mean, he's in a fairly famous band, but it doesn't seem like there's rockstar ego there.
Anyway. This fandom. People are mostly friendly. And there are lots of shiny pretty things to admire.
But at the same time, there are some not-so-cool things.
Like the way fans are so possessive of these folks.
I've talked before about compartmentalization, and how I'm happy to read a band's blog but don't want to read individual members' personal blogs. If there's stuff they're willing to put out in an interview, that's great. Otherwise, I don't want to know, okay?
I mean. They are real people. They are not our toys or our possessions. They have their real life, which should be separate from public view, even if only nominally, and we should respect the difference there. But apparently we don't, given the hate over Frank Iero's wedding.
His wife makes him happy, which presumably makes him (and thus the band) productive, which makes *me* happy. She makes him smile in a way that makes *me* smile. That's the end of it.
I don't understand why so many people over at Buzznet and elsewhere are/were acting heartbroken and spiteful over this.
He is not their friend, not their boyfriend. He's not taking something away from them by getting married. I just. Seriously, people. Why the hate?
