I am filled with so much anger right now. SO MUCH. I came to work extra early so I could get out of here and drive uptown so I'd be there when Verizon opened the doors and be at the barrier for Rise Against, and you know what just appeared in my inbox?

MotherFUCKER. I could have slept in after last night's Better Than Nothing Show, where The Offspring didn't even take the stage until 10:15pm.

Alkaline Trio at HOB would be fucking awesome, except that Steel Train, Forgive Durden, and Dear and the Headlights are playing the Warehouse AT THAT VERY SAME TIME. (eta: I am an idiot who can't even read the calendar clearly at this point.)

Mostly, though, I'm pissed off because I was really looking forward to seeing Rise Against.

HATE.

today's happy list...

∞ Suavez's remix of I Don't Care

∞ Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday's activities include seeing Black Gold, The Offspring, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, and Steel Train

∞ Halloween is in one week! It is my very favorite holiday, not so much for the trick-or-treating, which I hated when I was younger (and really, that's a weird activity, when you think about it - we send kids out to demand goods and threaten retaliation if said goods are not sufficient), but because in the more temperate climes in which I've lived it's the end of autumn, beginning of winter, the last harvest. The true end of the year to me. Plus? I love the costumes, pretending to be someone or something else for one night. AND? Because we're having a party, I have a valid reason to make the best ever pumpkin dessert (NOT PUMPKIN PIE, which is gross and disgusting) and not have leftovers. It's ~12000 calories of butter and brown sugar and pumpkin per serving, and I love it but don't make it unless I know I can give 99% of it to other people.

The librarians at the Calvert County Public Library rock. Libraries and librarians ≠ parents.

∞ According to USPS, my copy of Razia's Shadow (I assume - that's the only thing I've ordered from FBR's webstore lately, so I don't know what else I'd be getting a notice for) is IN HOUSTON. *taps foot impatiently*

In which MrIris and I were/are complete and utter GEEKS: we were standing up by a set of entry stairs at Reliant Arena last night, watching people filter into the GA area, and he turned to me and said, "They're like a Langmuir film, and the people at the barrier are the Stern layer. They're all self-assembling down by the stage, and the back there (*waves at the entrance*) is the bulk fluid, with the people drifting in and settling." AND I TOTALLY LAUGHED AT HIS ANALOGY. *facepalm*

[livejournal.com profile] libgirl did the 10 favorite songs meme, and she tagged me back with the Indigo Girls. It's really hard for me to pick just ten songs. But these are some of my favorites:

Oh, hey, did you see that Amy Ray is touring to support her new solo album? She is not appearing anywhere in TX, dammit.

Re: last night's show... )

Also, hey, hi, meet and greet with Cobra Starship? What's the weirdest thing y'all can think of to give them or get signed?

And finally, so much love for Rise Against and Appeal To Reason right now, especially Hero of War, which is a sad comment on military recruiting and its results.

+ The rotation student? Does the snorting, sniffling, suck-snot-back-into-his-lungs-and-nasal-cavity thing instead of finding a handkerchief. It's CONSTANT. I have long since passed the "Go blow your damn nose" point. Mostly I stick my earbuds in and turn my iPod up loud. I'm going to be deaf before I'm forty.

Seriously, that shit's gross, and it can't be good for the health. Why do that?

+ Patrick Stump. No, really:
... I was talking to Babyface and he was asking "How'd you get into singing?" and I was like "Uh, we needed a singer, no one else could sing." I always wanted to be just a guitar player and have someone else sing, and I still tease Pete about it, but I mean, at this point I think that's kind of weird, I'm kind of stuck with it [laughs].

+ The Age of the Warrior arrived last night. How much do I want to skip work and just read Robert Fisk's essays today? Very very much.

+ But then I'd feel guilty about leaving to go see The Academy Is... at the Warehouse Ballroom. And I'm not missing THAT!

+ Also? Babies' first arena show )

+ I clearly hadn't had enough caffeine before I left for work, because I forgot to download Appeal To Reason, which is out today.

I read an interview with Rise Against recently where they discuss the new album and talk about how some of the music was inspired by My Chemical Romance, with whom they enjoyed touring very much in 2007. And now I can't find it. Anyone know the interview I'm talking about?

Also? The video of Re-education (Through Labor) was released today. I am currently making ♥__♥ at Tim McIlrath on my monitor for quoting JFK at us.

(the making of the video)

+ Home again, home again. My in-laws are perfectly nice people, but I am accustomed to my own family's dysfunction. It is familiar, and I can dissociate myself from it or participate as the feeling moves me. It is another thing entirely to be a captive audience to another family's dysfunction. Plus, middle-of-nowhere Iowa for five days. I caught up on sleep. And I read a couple of books. And I wasn't at work, so. Not a total loss.

+ I was expecting my copy of Fast Times at Barrington High to be waiting in the mailbox when I got home, and was sadly disappointed. FBR online store, you FAIL.

+ Rise Against, however, does not. :)

+ Also? Melissa Etheridge was AWESOME. Three hours of her and her band (her guitarist; seriously). Honestly, she could have sung nursery rhymes after she did Bring Me Some Water and The Only One, and I still would have been happy, but I really liked the way she strung songs together (not necessarily in the order they were written or recorded) to tell her story.

What did I miss? I think I could go to skip500 on my f-list after five days and still not be caught up. I'm going through slowly, so link me to anything I should see post-haste, please?

Anybody in the Houston area want to see Reggie and The Full Effect and Leathermouth? I have an extra ticket; it's yours for the taking.

Today's other random babble:

- I hate spending weekend days at work. Just so's you know.

- Randomly watched the video of One of THOSE Nights after seeing the premiere of I'll Run, and you know what amuses me most? Johnson in his The Bled t-shirt. Oh, Johnson. Also, speaking of the video premiere and The Cab, when did Marshall get tall and HOT? Seriously, when they were first introduced to me just a few short months ago, he was all boyish and shy and young. WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?

- It occurs to me that Tim McIlrath is the only member of Rise Against that I'd recognize as such. And even then maybe not, given his changing hairstyles.

- The Misfits will be in town over Thanksgiving. I can't decide if I want to see them or not. I mean, Misfits. But reincarnated.

- In going through all my unlistened-to podcasts, I found one from Houston's #1 morning show, when they went to the Grammys this year. They interviewed Panic At The Disco. I have to laugh at Jon explaining what a barista is, and at the idea of the Spencer being "shifty".

- Those dolphin-like squeaks you just heard? That was me, expressing my glee about the in-store gig The Hush Sound and The Cab are doing on Tuesday, before their show at the Warehouse Live Studio.

give it all

RISE AGAINST / ALKALINE TRIO / THRICE TICKETS (at Verizon Wireless) GO ON SALE SOON.

I love Alice Cooper, and I really want to see him at Rock The Bayou, but I can't afford both events. Rise Against and Alkaline Trio on the same ticket totally trump him.

And Rise Against's new album should be out by then, right? RIGHT?

I am going to be eating PBJ for lunch for the rest of my LIFE, now. I mean, seriously. But it'll be totally worth it.

And Phantom Planet is going to be back in Houston in October, YAY.

Also. BB King at HOB, a two-night stand. *flails more* I think that's a gig I could get MrIris to take me to as a birthday gift. :)

I have tickets for the Cab/PWT/Panic/DC show at Reliant. I am so lame, I couldn't decide on pit or seats, so I got both. I can always try to sell the ones I don't want, right?
