today's happy list...

∞ Suavez's remix of I Don't Care

∞ Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday's activities include seeing Black Gold, The Offspring, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, and Steel Train

∞ Halloween is in one week! It is my very favorite holiday, not so much for the trick-or-treating, which I hated when I was younger (and really, that's a weird activity, when you think about it - we send kids out to demand goods and threaten retaliation if said goods are not sufficient), but because in the more temperate climes in which I've lived it's the end of autumn, beginning of winter, the last harvest. The true end of the year to me. Plus? I love the costumes, pretending to be someone or something else for one night. AND? Because we're having a party, I have a valid reason to make the best ever pumpkin dessert (NOT PUMPKIN PIE, which is gross and disgusting) and not have leftovers. It's ~12000 calories of butter and brown sugar and pumpkin per serving, and I love it but don't make it unless I know I can give 99% of it to other people.

The librarians at the Calvert County Public Library rock. Libraries and librarians ≠ parents.

∞ According to USPS, my copy of Razia's Shadow (I assume - that's the only thing I've ordered from FBR's webstore lately, so I don't know what else I'd be getting a notice for) is IN HOUSTON. *taps foot impatiently*

In which MrIris and I were/are complete and utter GEEKS: we were standing up by a set of entry stairs at Reliant Arena last night, watching people filter into the GA area, and he turned to me and said, "They're like a Langmuir film, and the people at the barrier are the Stern layer. They're all self-assembling down by the stage, and the back there (*waves at the entrance*) is the bulk fluid, with the people drifting in and settling." AND I TOTALLY LAUGHED AT HIS ANALOGY. *facepalm*

Desert sounds good. Yeah and if they actually think about what they're sending their children out to do...it is rather odd.

I call it Pumpkin Evil. When I find the recipe (which I hid in my last-ditch effort not to make it when I was feeling blue and wanted to indulge) I'll share it. :)

It is kind of an odd concept.

... but then, I am a candy fiend, so I love it anyway.

I love the candy corn, I will admit. :)

Halloween is the start of the busy season for us, both at work and at home b/c of the holidays and the massive number of birthdays. So I'm not really looking forward to it all that much, lol.

And you totally have to share Razia's Shadow with me.

I feel like I'm out of the loop lately; I miss talking with you!

IT DIDN'T GET DELIVERED TODAY. I AM NOT HAPPY. >:/

Also, I miss you alot! And I'm about 2000 words into my exchange fic. Will you be around to look at it later tonight or tomorrow?

we're going on a ghost walk this evening, but I'll be around after that. We're going to climb a mountain tomorrow, but I'll be around all morning b/c we have to wait on Tim anyways. <3

(also? I had to redo the two slashfests I had written b/c my flashdrive died. I need you to look at them sometime this week, but I'm working on a school paper right now.)

'kay. I'll be around, b/c I told Aaron I needed to write a fest fic. Tomorrow I'll be around during the morning. Must go see Eric Ronick in the evening, though. :D

I love Hallowe'en... I always dress up for school that day.

Last year I made up my own Hogwarts professor (Prof. Amanita, substitute Herbology professor - we were doing photosynthesis at the time, so it worked).

Did your students think it was cool or geeky that you dressed up as a HP character?

I think it was a combination of the two... depending on which students you asked.

After the Patriot Act was passed my public library in a largely conservative town, posted signs at every check in terminal alerting people to the fact that any person coming into the library and identifying themselves as a police officer or government official, even without a search warrant, would be allowed to access their borrowing information including the list of books they currently had checked out.

We don't keep lists of previously borrowed books, so that information wouldn't be available, but by law they would still be allowed to ask for it.

I was so very, very proud of them. :D

That's awesome. I am still waiting to hear more about the librarians in CT who fought the PATRIOT act, but they're gagged by the very law they are fighting.
