+ The grant is submitted, so at this point there is absolutely nothing that can be added to my work to-do list. This is a good thing.

+ We brewed (I say that, but really A brewed today, a wheat IPA, while I cleaned), and smoked a brisket (beef: not my thing, but it's his, so whatever), and instead of being social, we're going to hang out at our house tonight. Friends are having a party, but one of the people involved pissed me off: last week he told me that my ink "looks nice in comparison to most prison tatts". Uh. Yeah. My response: you are drunk, so I'm going to point you toward your wife (who was also annoyed, b/c he was the designated driver for the evening) instead of shoving my beer and my fist in your face. I just. Yeah. Lots of people comment on my ink, people I know and strangers alike, and mostly it doesn't bother me; I'm patient about explaining what it means if they ask. But for an acquaintance to deliver what he probably meant as a joke in his drunk mind but came off as insult? When he's been semi-insulting to me about them in the past? No. I'm done. He can fuck right off.

+ Mmm, banana bread with pecans.

+ Tropic of Chaos by Christian Parenti. Interesting topic, but a book published by someone who writes for The Nation? I expect to be copy-edited well enough that the South American nation's name is appropriately spelled. Colombia, not Columbia.

+ NCAA lacrosse finals on my TV. MD/VA. Totally making me want to write more about Brad/Nate in the college AU. Y/Y/MFY?

+ Rafa/Nole tomorrow. Breakfast at Wimbledon? We might even have some strawberries to mix with cream.

+ Fireworks Monday at Tinsley Park. We'll probably hang out at the Flying Saucer beforehand, if anyone wants to meet for beers and then walk over by the Allen Parkway.

+ My [livejournal.com profile] yagkyas fic is finished! It's been beta'd. I'm letting it sit for a day before I look at it again, make any additional changes, and then submit it. \o/

+ All holiday shopping (minus one pair of liners for crocs) is complete. Multiple loaves of pumpkin-pecan bread are cooling, and banana-walnut batter is waiting to be poured into the baking tins when they become available. \o/

+ I still haven't addressed any holiday cards yet. /o\

+ I'm most of the way through S1 of The West Wing. I might be the only person in the world who didn't watch it when it was being broadcast. Between 1996 and early 2004, I watched college football, hockey, and the occasional episode of ER, and that's pretty much it; I read a fuck-ton of books and scientific papers, though. Anyway. I am in love with CJ. Seriously, my competence kink, she hits it EVERY EPISODE. And 1.7, the state dinner episode where she's in the gorgeous grey silk gown, barefoot in her office? I needed a moment. (Aaron thinks this is hilarious; for some reason he - who watched TWW with Rachel - thought Sam would be my favorite. Um. No.) I have to ask: is Danny Concannon based on the actual WaPo WHPC rep, or a nod to Danny Schechter, News Dissector?

Anyway. I won't ramble, because I'm sure that the awesome of TWW is already known to most of you.

+ I have eight different tabs of poetry open. I would love for someone to write GK fic based on Frost's Not To Keep.

+ Since the exchange fic is done, I am allowing myself to think more about the college AU, or maybe a vampire-politics AU. Here, have a fic-bit of the former. How Nate meets Brad in the college AU )

My sleep schedule is totally messed up. Sleeping 5 am to 9am is not going to be very useful for work purposes this week.

A list of all gift suggestions, holiday card requirements, and baking has been achieved. Now I just have to work on crossing items off said list.

In the meantime, the drabble/ficlet prompt post will remain open, because I excel at justifying procrastination as inspiration and stimulation.

Thus far:

untitled bandom drabble, empires, 100 words, for [livejournal.com profile] junebug_waltz
deadly drunken tree fairy, SPN, 115 words, for [livejournal.com profile] koshweasley
flip flop smiles, GK, Walt/Brad in the college AU, 189 words, for [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar
touch/sight/speech, GK, Brad/Nate, 333 words, for [livejournal.com profile] idrilka
paying it forward, American Idiot, vaguely Will/Tunny, 497 words, for [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar
it follows, GK, Brad/Nate, 126 words, for [livejournal.com profile] lickingbeads

ETA b/c I'm pretty much sitting at my laptop with heart-eyes:

:D Discos' livestream from Germany. I have missed their stupid faces and bad stage banter.

:D A Dean/Castiel fanvid to Matchbox 20's Push.

The Corner of 6th and How To Forget
Walt/Brad || 2637 words || adult
Complete fiction, meant to imply absolutely nothing about any real people whose names or faces served as inspiration.
Nothing but irredeemable porn here. Part of a college AU that is largely unwritten as yet, but should stand alone since there's no real plot to speak of. This ficlet started life as a drabble for [livejournal.com profile] pjvilar and [livejournal.com profile] schlicky, and grew from there. Inspired by this photo and this NSFW one. Entirely unbeta'd, so hit me up with errors as you see them. Title and cut text from Old 97's Designs on you.

I have spent the last hour mentally debating whether Nate in the college AU went to the Gilman School or Calvert Hall before heading off to Dartmouth.

This Nate's family lives in Roland Park. And Gilman is in Roland Park. And those are two of the schools that anyone who is anyone in the legal profession in the Balmer area might've attended. [Baltimore is clannish, okay? J and I had this discussion the other day about how when a banker or lawyer in Baltimore asks where you went to school, they're not asking about college - if you're from there, and practice there, they want to know if you went to Gilman or Calvert Hall or the Boys' Latin School.]

a) This is not my [livejournal.com profile] yagkyas fic.

b) This is not the Walt/Brad ficlet that needs to be transcribed.

c) WTAF, brain? Why are you focusing on minutiae when the bulk has yet to be written?

Why didn't anyone direct me to fuckyeahsurfers before? Seriously. Hello, inspiration.

From another tumblr entirely, this has held my attention for the last couple of days )

1. I feel like I've lost my porn-fu. Ugh, it took me FOREVER to write some comment-fic porn, and I can't tell if it's because it's a pairing I've never written before or if I'm getting stuck on mechanics and description. (Please note that I have not written any more of my exchange fic. My brain's squarely focused on things that have no deadline and/or are complete crack. Like the porn that would go with item #12 of the girl!Brad not!fic.)

2. Last night's show at Fitzgerald's was stellar. I appreciate Amanda Palmer's solo work, but her + Brian Viglione = so fucking much more energy. It's not multiplicative or additive, it's exponential. They were on stage for 2.5 incredible hours. Coin-Operated Boy, Gravity, the Jeep Song, Missed Me, all that stuff, with the bonus of a performance of War Pigs as the finale. ***That's not video of last night - I didn't have my camera, and no-one's uploaded it, that I can find.

Every time AFP's internet hubbub annoys me and I tell myself I'm not going to bother with her or DD again, I remember how fantastic the live shows are, and remain willing to pay the venue's entry fee.

(Girl In A Coma opened. Ungh, Nina Diaz. Your VOICE. Especially on the cover of For What It's Worth.)

3. Totally unrelated to music or fiction. Sort of. Nir Rosen debated Max Boot on Fareed Zakaria's GPS this morning. It was painful to watch, because clearly neither could or would concede any ground, and if you believe the thinkers at CFR, well, I guess I have to ask if you've drunk the Kool-Aid. But on a purely visual level, I was interested in the contrast between them: Boot in his suit and shorn hair seated at an angle to Rosen, who was wearing jeans and a casual shirt and jacket, if I recall correctly, and a pair of Chucks.

I was thinking about genderswap in GenKill fandom last night. It's really hard for me to see Nate as a girl, I think because in his writing, in OBA, he's pretty clearly settled into his masculinity, looking for the last bastion of masculinity in Recon. (That's not to say it can't be done. It just takes some selling. Or setting in a really really different AU.)

But Brad, whose sisters call him a girl? Who just shrugs and doesn't argue or defend himself when Wright brings it up on camera, in front of the other guys? Yeah.

A Disney AU, where Bravo Company are the characters in The Fox And The Hound, or -- BETTER YET -- Lady And The Tramp.

Best distraction from work ever, y/n?

I just uploaded BRMC's iTunes Session for my dad.

My dad. Because we discovered a mutual love of BRMC when we were chatting at ACLfest a couple of weeks ago, and I transferred our tickets to see them and STP @ the Backyard to him, since Aaron and I are going to Dallas to see Bush. (And probably also BRMC at a smaller-venue headlining show.)

But he only has the album with Fault Lines, so I offered him a little of their newer stuff.

ANYWHO.

Want, take. Lemme know if you have any problems.

Um. M4A format, FYI.

Also? It is possible that I have written/drabbled/texted myself into creating an entire college AU starring Brad and Nate, with guest appearances from Ray. GK fandom, what have you done to me? (I'd blame you, [personal profile] why_me_why_not, but I totally did this to myself this time.)

Finally? I'm glad tons of other people saw people at work/school/whatever wearing purple today, because I saw a grand total of two other people wearing purple. (They were med students.)
