I fail at updating

Theoretically there will be a post about SXSW, but I am doing laundry and contemplating the drive up to Cypress to see Stamps perform at some crawfish-related festival or something at Cypress Saloon. Am I fated to only see Stamps perform at restaurants? (Seeing a band gig at TGIFriday's bar will never stop being a source of amusement, although I thought the performance was outstanding.)

So you get two least-blurry phone pics.




Most hilarious: Sean Van Vleet draped over Tom Conrad, crooning, "Quiet now, you're sucking the charm out..."

Also amusing: Tomrad being the person to invite us all to come closer. Until we were basically standing AT his mic.

And: How surprised they were by the enthusiastic response to the performance of I Want Blood.






They looked and sounded amazing. Dallon Weekes really charms me. Brendon and Spencer seemed really pleased that the crowd was so into their new songs and knew the lyrics. (I've got nothing about Ian; I was at the barrier in front of DW, and Ian was on the opposite side of the stage, so I didn't see as much of him.)

The debut performance of Ready To Go, after hearing them soundcheck it (in addition to some Jackson 5 and what sounded like Carry On My Wayward Son)? AWESOME.

And LOL, poor Zack. Seriously, skeevy people who throw their underwear at the stage: Don't. Do. That. Zack picks it up gingerly and throws it to the ground to be trampled by security.

Well, Brendon did say that Lying was the song for everyone to get naked to, but I don't think he meant it literally...

I feel like my default for some of the shit that Zack has to deal with (no matter that it is a job for which I assume he is well paid) is essentially: LOL POOR ZACK.

It's SXSW. Pretty much anywhere with floor space can become a venue, and in this case, it was the TGIFriday's bar. It was kind of LOLarious. But the sound was surprisingly good.

THEY WERE SO GOOD. Like, really, I saw two of their dates on the blink-182 tour, and the energy was different from the vibe on the Rockband and Honda Civic tour, but this was a thousand times better. They just seem so much happier, and the music is all dance-y and Brendon's all over the stage instead of being weighed down by his guitar.

I've seen underwear thrown at them occasionally, but not as often as some other bands (*cough* All Time Low *cough* who encourage it) and not as often as it was the other night. I'm not sure if it's because it's Austin, b/c it was SXSW, or what.

SXSW is ALWAYS that weekend. Every year it's the weekend that includes St. Patrick's Day, so there are tons of drunk people wearing green wandering up and down Sixth.

Clearly we need to fold the earth together to shorten the distance between these two points, yes? Totally do-able.
