First? HFD was collecting donations at intersections on my way to work this AM, so I gave them the leftover $ from my Sbx run. Then I was sitting, waiting for the light to turn, and the firefighter knocked on my window, and wanted to know about my ink. I blocked traffic when the left turn signal went green b/c we were still talking. *facepalm* But now I'm thinking about the firefighter/EMT AU. *sigh* I wish I followed through more consistently when it comes to writing.

Second? On the subject of writing and follow-through. Someone needs to tell me either to NOT sign up for [livejournal.com profile] warbigbang or to volunteer to poke me every week to write a thousand words. The world needs more Generation Kill AUs, right? Yeah no. But I have these two idea fermenting.

a) A Jack Ryan sort of AU, where Nate Fick is the ex-Marine history prof turned CIA/NSA analyst, and Colbert and Person are the equivalent of Clark and Chavez.

b) GK meets American Idiot. Tunny joins the Marines instead of the Army. In my imaginary AU, they were in Fallujah and it was a roadside IED where Tunny was injured, and Brad was *there*, a few meters down and on the other side of the street, and there was nothing he could do but stop the bleeding and get back to base and hope that Tunny'd be okay. But there's no such thing as *really* okay, because even with his limited medical expertise, Brad recognizes that there's no way Tunny's coming back to the platoon, not after an injury like that. (He'd totally retreat under his victor to deal with his emo, if it was a possibility.)

Brad tries not to hound Capt. Riley for details once Tunny's been cas-evac'd, first to Germany and then back to the States, to Walter Reed. But he can't help but be concerned. Tunny's one of his men, and he needs to KNOW. Nevermind that he maybe cares a little bit too much about this one devil dog in particular. It has nothing to do with his sly sense of shared humor. Or his green eyes and ready smile. Or guilt that Brad had been the one to order Team Two to clear that stretch of road.

And the thing is, Tunny reminds him of Nate, physically. But the barrier of officer/enlisted doesn't exist for them, not like it did for him and Nate. Brad's never been one to mix with the other men socially - they come to him, rather than the other way around - but even now that he's a Gunnery Sgt, he's still more comfortable with other grunts than with the officers. No matter how much time Brad spends as Capt. Riley's second in command, next to him at briefings and driving the victor, he's never going to be as close to him as he is to the other enlisted men.

Yeah, so that's going on in my head. I still have thoughts about American Idiot that I haven't completely written out, and other stuff stewing.

Third? Um, thanks for listing all the original Northern Downpour members in the back of the Discos' calendar, Artist Arena. Really.

But I hope y'all are having a decent weekend. ♥

The very back page of the calendar. Check it out. It's a huge list of names in tiny print. I assume it's all the original members who are still members? IDK, I recognize a bunch of them. Including my own.

Real names. First and last. Whatever name you used to sign up for NDP, not the username, the actual name.

It's not that I don't own my fannishness. But it would've been nice for them to TELL US they were going to do that before sending them out into the world.

dude, I'm pretty sure that should be AN INVASION OF PRIVACY. maybe fourteen-year-olds don't care, but I fucking would. idek if my name is on there because idek what this calendar thing is.

eta: not saying that you = a fourteen-year-old. I just don't exactly want people using my real name for things like that without, you know, ASKING. because I def did not authorize that when I signed up, I'm pretty sure.

I was just about to edit that comment to ask if you wanted me to remove any name-related implications. Yes/no? (eta: as in, I'll screen it)

Ugh. I don't remember agreeing, but maybe there was something in the terms and agreements box we had to check that we'd read back when we first signed up? (eta: LOL, horrible syntax)

GK/AI fic, I wants it! WHERE IS IT? AI has been out long enough now that people should be writing the shit out of soldier-boy Tunny. WHY AREN'T THEY DOING IT?

ahaha, well, I guess if I really truly cared about my name getting out, I would have used a more secretive lj name. (eta: ummm, re: screening, it's all right. thank you, though. ♥)

and Y! SERIOUSLY! so much potential for Tunny-and-Brad angst. I want it.
