I wanted to see the extended Meet the Press interview with Adm. Mike Mullen (military/press tension is supposed to be addressed), so I clicked through the links on the website instead of listening to the segment that included Bloomberg's bullshit about continuing the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. The video wasn't up yet (it is now), but the site led me to the JCS bio for Mullen.

His rise in the Navy started at sea.

Really, Navy/JCS PR people? Someone on your staff actually wrote and posted that line, seriously?

Wow. Just, wow.

Um, Navy boot camp is in Illinois or Indiana, and A-school & C-school are in San Antonio. Maybe there is another Navy training facility actually located on one of the coasts?

Or maybe he started proving himself as someone who was gonna rise through the ranks of the Navy while he was actually at sea?

Idek, I'm trying to figure out a way to interpret that, but I'm having a hard time.

I know there's a Naval something or other outside Chicago, but that sorta makes sense because there's a REALLY BIG LAKE right there. San Antonio, though, makes no sense.

Mostly I just think that's a ridiculous bit of hyperbole, and I can't believe a professional actually came up with it.

(also, I totally failed at getting back online yesterday, but I *do* have a snippet of Brad/Nate to type for you)

Yeah, Cliff started outside Chicago & then went to San Antonio, and Josh started in Indiana. I didn't understand the San Antonio thing either.

Maybe they wanted to be sure whoever was reading understands that the Navy is related to the sea?

(It's totally cool. I have more Belle story to send you. Also, it took me forever to write this comment b/c Illy has learned how to make grabby hands that mean "pick me up" and I can't resist her chubby little self.)

His rise in the Navy started under ground.

I'm sure they just needed some sort of sentence, and that one worked.

Probably. It's just so ridiculous. *sigh*

There's something disturbing and disappointing about that sort of sentence being found in an official government release.
