I meant to post something about SXSW, but I'm tired and half-drunk off some really excellent carmenere, so I'm just going to laugh about the teenies who ended up next to me at the BRMC show the other night.

They didn't know ANY of Band of Skulls' music or BRMC's catalog other than - yes, you guessed it - Done All Wrong, from the New Moon soundtrack. Which BRMC did not perform. They spent the entire show looking bored and uninterested. Srsly, I understand spending a long evening at the barrier if you're really into a headliner but don't care about the opening acts. But GTFO of the barrier if you're not interested in anything but one song. SRSLY.

They did that. And my favorite, 666 Conducer. And they worked The Line into Shadow's Keeper. Leah Shapiro is a goddess. I might've spent the majority of the set ogling her. Possibly.

Plus, signed set-lists are always a bonus. :D

Hey, hi!

I'm sorry I didn't text or email at all today, but work was ridiculous - mostly b/c I was out Thursday and Friday, and I have to present lab meeting tomorrow. I'm hoping things'll even out Wednesday. Hopefully? :D?

New canon - Empires does not tour in the midwest/west coast or much at all because whenever they tour they are harassed by unicorns who want to lay their heads on Max Steeger's lap while he plays guitar.

I also may have committed myself to writing a story where Max Steeger is The Little Mermaid. Sort of.

I would pay to hear Max sing Part Of Your World. Just sayin'.

But who would be the prince?

Re: touring. I can see where that'd be a problem. But there's a really really simple way to get the unicorns to lay off, Max. REALLY SIMPLE.

MAX CAN'T HELP IT HE'S THE PUREST OF THE PURE.

Actually it's a feminist retelling of The Little Mermaid so while Van Creep is probably the prince, The Little Maxmaid wants to be a human for love of MUSIC - because you can't play guitar under water! And he has until the sun sets on the third day to form a band without actually being able to play any instruments as long as he's on land.

... yeah I thought this through a LOT.

IN-teresting. Can he write music while he's on land, without actually playing an instrument? Or is that cheating? How does he convince ppl otherwise?

I have not quite thought that far but I think Tom helps... sort of. Basically Tom finds him washed up on the beach and is like "Here, put some clothes on you scrawny naked boy... hey, do you want to listen to my demos? We should be in a band. :|"

Hm, and Max could help him with the demos or even the actual playing - just b/c he can't play guitar doesn't mean he can't help Tom with the fingering and such, right? - and somehow Tom pulls him into the band he's building, b/c Max is awesome and he totally made Tom's demos better?

And then Tom uses Max to attract more band members because no one else would join his band because he was too creepy, but they will if Max vouches for him because Max is so normal and virtuous and smart.

...this doesn't sound like fiction, this sounds like RL to me.

Basically yes.

I feel this is how Tom find most of his friends in RL.

It is vaguely based on the actual story that Sean told in a radio interview about how Tom got him to be in his band - by "swooping" into the Borders where Sean was working "with his hood up" and dumping demos on the cash register, then leaving.

I know probably they already knew each other and Tom had heard Sean sing with For The Birds, but I like to think that they were total strangers and Tom just thought Sean LOOKED like someone who should be in a band with him.

The retelling of Little Mermaid is kind of my favorite. There's no need for a man, only music! You should help me badger [livejournal.com profile] arielchan into writing this.

It was awesome to see you again and experience more awesome live music together. And then some not so awesome but lol-worthy stuff.

It was good to see you again! I need to visit Chicago again and hang out!

I am totally on board with poking [livejournal.com profile] arielchan into writing this. :D
