Day 01 → Your favorite song
Day 02 → Your favorite movie
Day 03 → Your favorite television program
Day 04: My favorite book
Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand
This was not the first of Rand's books that I read, nor would it be the one I would recommend to introduce someone to her philosophy. (Those honors go to The Fountainhead and Anthem, respectively.)
While there are some things about objectivism, which Rand most directly summarized in Galt's radio speech, that I feel can be taken to extremes, I think the idea here, that the people who innovate, create, work, go on strike to stop being taken for granted, is a fascinating one. I'd love to see how it would play out in real life, but I have a feeling it would be a disaster beyond imagining. Too many people are used to having a free lunch.
I've read that there's a movie version in the works, with Charlize Theron purported to play Dagny Taggart. I will most likely NOT see the movie, because it is always painful for me to see an adaptation of a book I love mangled on the big screen. 9 times out of 10, the screen version is a wretchedly inaccurate interpretation that is a woeful disappointment.
Honorable mentions:
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte
Sense & Sensibility - Jane Austen
No Graves As Yet - Anne Perry
Crocodile On The Sandbank - Elizabeth Peters
