Also, re: your subject, being in a graduate program does not imply sense. Like when people say things about the sun orbiting the Earth. Yes, seriously.
Indeed they were. But interrupting my experiment with their frantic phone call that they need to develop a film RIGHT NOW and a demand that I immediately fix the malfunction, without ever checking the power supply? Especially when we sent out a reminder *this week* that the developer was to be turned on and off for each use, rather than runnign continuously? Does not endear them to me.
hilarious. that's what i love about pretentious intellectuals. there's always a random piece of common sense that pops their balloon. this is why i firmly believe in stating that i am a ditzy academic. i can't spell, i have shitty grammar, and 5/5 times i will get lost when going to a new place *with* directions. degrees don't equal sense ever.
I'm a ditzy academic too! But the thing is, the first thing I check, always, is the power. Because often with other, computer-driven equipment, the first thing to do is log out/off/shutdown and reboot, and that'll fix the problem.
what's frustrating is that because i'm an unabashed ditzy academic no one ever believes that i have the solution to a problem (unless its specifically related to my field.) i have to trouble shoot tech problems all the time (because i don't want to bother other people) so i come across a lot of common problems and know how to respond. but when something fucks up no one believes me so i just sit and watch the run around clueless.

Date: 2009-03-12 01:09 pm (UTC)reminds me of one time we were interviewing temps; my co-worker asked her, "what was your favourite past job and why?"
she answered, "working in the wal-mart photo center, because i'm very photogenic."
that was a year ago. we're still laughing.
