Last week J sent me a link to Random House's free e-book library and recommended one of the books, Naomi Novik's His Majesty's Dragon.

I spent this afternoon reading it.

Want the rest of the series now.

Seriously, Napoleonic wars and espionage and social/class differences through the lens of different armed service branches and dragons.

Eeee, I love them. If your library doesn't have them, you are totally welcome to borrow mine; I've got the first four in paperback but haven't broken down and bought the fifth one yet.

I am checking my library THIS WEEK for these books! I can't flail hard enough over the first book. Novik really did a good job with Laurence and Temeraire, and also building the background characters. Plus, dragons. Dragons are NEVER a bad thing.

I found them last year and just love them to death.

I read the first because she rec'd it to me, but now I really want to read the rest. The most recent was a hardback, so I assume that means the series will continue.

I think she's mentioned on her blog (or an interview? my memory sucks today) that she's got at least 8 novels in mind.
