I left an agarose gel of a DNA digest running overnight... at the current I'd use if I wanted to visualize it in an hour. *facepalm*

Also, I shouldn't sign up for [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang, right? Even if I could write the Matt Cortez gen Panic fic. Or Gabe-isn't-nearly-as-smooth-and-easy-as-people-think-he-is fic. That's 20k words due, in rough draft form, by 30April. Is that a deadline I could meet?

Aaand, OMG, still giggling over the woman wearing the "apple bottoms" jacket on the light rail this morning.

AND. JFC, LOOK WHAT JUST APPEARED IN MY INBOX:

BELIEVERS NEVER DIE PART DEUX TOUR

Gabe Saporta and Patrick Stump on stage together, Y/MFY?

ETA: Also... any of you Houston ppl going to see Scott Weiland this weekend? Dunno, I sorta wanted to, but I've heard that he's not doing any STP. Like, when the crowd yells requests, he ignores them completely. And I don't like his new stuff well enough that I'd want to hear 90 minutes of it.

I'm having flashbacks to the summer of 2007! I saw them tour together then and it was AMAZING!

MFY!!!!!!

With bonus getting to see the show with all of my friends this time around!

I am flailing and getting no work done. AND! The Dallas date is a Friday, Houston is a Saturday. I believe a road trip might be in order...

Hell's yeah! I was thinking of also including the NOLA date maybe. Perhaps. Also, maybe the first dates of the tour in Arizona and Vegas. WHAT SHONNA WHAT?

I *wish* I could do the first dates - but that weekend is hubby's bday, and he'd be pretty pissed if I bailed on him for a roadtrip. Probably. Maybe. But def. the Dallas/Houston/NOLA dates.

Gabe Saporta and Patrick Stump on stage together, Y/MFY? MFY!!! Plus we get JoeTroh and Suarez and skeezy lil Trace Cyrus and ATL and OMG!

Are you serious about signing up for bandombigbang? B/c I kinda totally wanna try to write Bob/Gerard AU for it but IDK! And if you sign up, then I'll be less likely to resist!

I don't know. I want to write, and I'm procrastinating so much lately that I was wondering if maybe having a word goal and a deadline would motivate me. We could be each other's support network, right? Maybe? I'm still thinking about it. Let me outline one or the other over the next few days and I'll decide.

Ohgod, I was trying not to think about the skeevy side of that tour. But. RYLAND! SUAREZ! PStump and his little stompy foot! ♥_♥ (Actually I'm REALLY hoping that This Is Ivy League and empires are at SXSW this year. Then I will be hardcore flailing.)

Are you familiar with smartfares.com? Or, alternately, is there a site you use for cheap airfare? (also, my main concerns are 1. if Pam will keep the kids, which I'm sure she will and I've already emailed her but I have to know for sure and 2. the cost of the tickets themselves b/c if I come spend the weekend with you I'll still have to go to the Charlotte show with Tinsley and Harley)

If you do decide to sign up for bigbang, I'll give you a pass on everything else on our to-be-written lists. Outline and see. I'll totally support you either way. I did sign up for hpslashnotsmut, but that's only 1000 words, which is only like 5 text msgs, so it shouldn't be that difficult unless I get someone who likes very strange pairings or something.

haha, omg, I'm so HAPPY right now it's kinda ridiculous! :P

I have not used that. Usually I'm flying somewhere that Southwest or Continental goes, and their airfares are pretty straightforward, but I know that's not the case for you coming from Roanoke's airport. If you could arrive in Houston early on the 17th, so we can drive up, and leave from Houston on the 20th, we could do all the shows, and I'll do the driving. Or, you know, you might be able to arrive in Dallas (to avoid sitting in a car with me all morning after an early morning flight) and leave from Houston, whatever works for you. I'm not expecting concert tickets to be crazy expensive, but I could front the ticket cost for one or two of the three shows as a birthday gift. That doesn't help for the Charlotte show or airfare, but still. If you only want to do the Houston show, I'd get over it.

Of course, this is all assuming I end up *getting* tickets via OCK's presale.

Thinking. I just sort of outlined the Gabe story. Haven't done anything for the Matt one yet.

Roanoke is tiny and ridiculous. Someone recommend smartfares to me, though, and the price is like $100 cheaper than going directly through the airline. I can't actually *buy* tickets until I get my tax money back though, which is still several weeks away. (hurry up, w-2s!) When I emailed Pam, I told her the 16th through the 21st, so I'm covered there as long as she says yes. (also, the kids are out of school on spring break that week, so that would kinda work out) I DO wanna do more than one show, omg. Multiple instances of the boys + YOU? UH, YES PLEASE! How long is the drive from Houston to Dallas? b/c, y'know, if I go to Dallas and don't get at least get a five-minute-hugs-and-coffee-session with [livejournal.com profile] wendy, then I'd be SAD. lol.

I'm gonna make Tinsley pay for the Charlotte show. It'll be payment for me driving her and Lacee to and from DC in March. *g*

Davey heard me and Harley talking about FOB & Cobra and now he's saying he wants to go, lol. Crazy kid.

I'm confident that you could write bigbang without a problem, and if you do wanna go for it, like I said, I'll support you.

Dallas is ~4-5 hour drive from Houston, so we could totally go and hang out with Wendy. I don't know who all will be going with from Houston, but we could work that out.

Also? Dow did their firings today, for the 10% workforce cut they announced before Christmas? AND AARON STILL HAS A JOB, SO LIFE IS GOOD.

I feel like Winnie The Pooh: think! think! think!

yayes!

YAY FOR AARON STILL HAVING A JOB!

You're going to have to listen to me complain about my job for the next few months; I'm putting my job search on hold.

little engine that could: I think I can I think I can.

B/c of the shitty job market right now, or for other reasons?

if I wanna use vacation time in April, I really need to stay where I'm at. lol.

But the job market is really really shitty too. There is NOTHING around here that's worth anything. And in May, I'll get job placement assistance from school anyways.

I errr ... may have sort of hooked up my gel wrong and ran it backwards ... whoops! *shares your gel woes* :(

Date: 2009-01-15 11:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] asimplechord.livejournal.com
I've done that before. I've done that to SDS-PAGE gels, too, and there is no salvaging them. At least you can re-use an agarose gel... if you don't melt it. :/

Yup, it was my native PAGE gel ... complete waste of time. I have sample left, but ... meh. None of my ligations worked, none of my transformations worked, and I have a killer headache ... going home early, and screw the rest of the experiments anyhow. :P

There are days like that. Hell, I've had WEEKS like that, where by Friday noon I've gotten to the point where I'm just like, "I'm going home. I am opening a bottle of wine, and I'm not thinking about science until Monday."

Sometimes it's the only thing you can do! Some people think we're slightly alcoholics, in our lab, but hey, there's always either cause to celebrate something or commiserate over the fact that NOTHING is working. I am self-medicating by having dessert tonight!
