they took him away, a bag over his face

Shed Your Skin - the version with Tom Morello. I've musicshared this song before. I like the original album version well enough, but I love the spin that Morello's guitar and the added syncopation add. Plus, it's the perfect marriage of political folk singers.
Closer To Fine - Amy and Emily do this song at every show, I think. I love it. I spent four years prostrate to the higher mind / got my paper and I was free...
Least Complicated - There's a lot of truth in this song.
Love Will Come To You - It's totally a cliche, but I had a boyfriend (who was not yet a boyfriend at the time) who put this song on a mixtape for me, and that was the first I heard of the Indigo Girls.
Romeo And Juliet - A cover of a Mark Knopfler song. Usually I like the originals better, but Knopfler's version sounds too doleful and accepting to me. The Indigo Girls' Romeo sounds angry and defiant and not ready to give up on Juliet just yet.
Go - Again, I've musicshared this song before. Love it.
Become You - I like the way this song describes the growth of two people in relation to each other.
Get Out The Map - Don't drink the water / there seems to be something ailing everyone. Truer words were never spoken.
Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee - *sigh* Yeah.
Land of Canaan - This was supposed to be a love song, originally. I think. It still is. Just not the way most people think of love songs, I guess. But since I think that Live's I Alone is one of the most gorgeous, passionate love songs ever, you might guess that my view of such things is skewed.
It was hard to choose just 10 songs. Notable absences from the list are Galileo, possibly their best-known song, and Chicken Man, Moment of Forgiveness, Power of Two, and Joking.

Oh, hey, did you see that Amy Ray is touring to support her new solo album? She is not appearing anywhere in TX, dammit.
Re: last night's show...
+ Hey Mondays - liked 'em well enough to find some of their music this morning. Honestly, though? The lead singer's voice was very reminiscent of the lead singer from Flyleaf, which I find weird. Something about the pitch and intonation, maybe? Dunno. The dudes in the band need to ditch the scene hair in a bad way, imo. The guitarist (on the left side of the stage - don't know their names) sported a Cab tshirt, which made me grin. Nothing like fanboying past tourmates.
+ Carolina Liar. Liked them alot. They looked like a band of real boys, as opposed to scene boys.
+ We The Kings - Were better than last time I saw them, smoother. Hunter's hair is cut! And Drew seems less petrified, moving around more on stage, although he's sticking with true bassist (non-Wentzian, anyway) behavior and just letting his hair cover his face while he plays, not looking much at the crowd.
I missed hearing Check Yes Juliet, but LOL'd over The Gorillaz.
+ William Beckett's collarbones distracted me for a while (is he sharing a closet with Ryan Ross right now?), but when I was finally able to focus on other things, I had to wonder: is he taking lessons in stage-behavior from Frank Iero and Adam Lazzara?
*flails slightly over acoustic version of The Test*
Mostly I was distracted by the awesomeness at the drum-kit. I could wax poetic about it (except for those striped trousers; seriously, what?) but I think this summarizes it best:
In conclusion: Nrgh, Butcher.
Also, hey, hi, meet and greet with Cobra Starship? What's the weirdest thing y'all can think of to give them or get signed?
And finally, so much love for Rise Against and Appeal To Reason right now, especially Hero of War, which is a sad comment on military recruiting and its results.

Date: 2008-10-08 10:05 pm (UTC)Hee, that's awesome. Are you taking her to the show in Charlotte? I have two tickets, but I'm not sure the person going with me (one of Aaron's colleagues who's really into Cobra Starship and TAI) wants to do the meet-and-greet.

Date: 2008-10-09 12:37 am (UTC)We are planning on going to Charlotte. It depends on her grade in government; her grades are slipping.
