It is half-time, so I flipped over to watch the VMAs. Time for random babble.

How is Katy Perry a "new" artist? She recorded her first album, admittedly a Christian/gospel one, in 2001.

The dudes in Tokio Hotel freak me out. More than just a little. Doll-like and plastic and scary, they are, especially the one with the really big hair.

Also, how sad is it that when I saw Shia LaBeouf, all I could think of was gigantic's fic, Your Fingerprints Like A Code?

I don't dislike Katy Perry, I just don't think she's all that. In terms of talent, I think Jordin Sparks and far and away beats all the others, but it's totally a popularity contest, so.

I... could do with less Pete Wentz, to be entirely honest. I like him in very small doses. Preferably blogged ones, or ones where he has a bass in his hands and Patrick is at the mic.

I'm recording the VMAs so I can watch in entirety later. Or just speed through to the bits where bands I want to see are on screen.

See, I happened to see one of the host moments with him and Ashlee, and something about it just bothers me. It feels exploitative (that's not quite the right word, but my brain is failing me right now), the way they use their relationship and their baby. Maybe it's not. Maybe Pete's JUST THAT EXCITED to be a dad, and that's why he's all, "That's my baby."

And if they both agree to it, I guess it's not exploitative. But someday they're going to want privacy, and I feel like they've courted publicity and used their relationship for public moments like this, and thus abdicate their right to complain about paparazzi and lack of privacy later. Dunno.

Ugh, I hate it when awards shows do that - call someone a 'new artist' even when they've been around for ages, but have only hit it ~big now. Like Paramore and their Grammy nod last year or whatever.

Didn't watch the VMAs but I couldn't agree more. Caught my daughter singing this horrible sample and I had to explain to her why this Yankee had screwed up two very beloved classics. When I played the originals, she informed me that the werewolf song was not the right one but the other one was really close. *headdesks*
