Awesome things about Warped:

1. Highway 1 stage was a pretty good place to plant myself for most of the day.

No really, I stayed near the back of the crowd for Relient K, but then worked my way up to the barricade for the next four bands. Even though I couldn't see the Route 66 stage, it was right next-door, so I could hear Jack's Mannequin and From First To Last and Norma Jean.

2. Tom Gabel. I admit, I was spoiled by their (Against Me!'s) set at Bonnaroo, which was three times as long. But still. :D

3. After Against Me! I stayed and watched the breakdown/setup. People were screaming randomly, then Nate Novarro came out to tech his own kit, and that led to more screaming. And we could see when Gabe came up to the side stage, and William Beckett and Sisky. I thought for sure that meant Sisky would be doing the Snakes On A Plane rap, but no (Paul Wall did it; just once I'd like to hear someone else do it). It seemed that Alex Suarez's dad was getting married yesterday, and Sisky and Butcher were going to play bass instead. I didn't even know Butcher could play bass. They gave him the maracas during Smile For The Paparazzi, and he looked like he was having WAY too much fun shaking them and his ass.

Oh, Butcher.

Um. I was right in front of Ryland, who was totally awesome. I don't have much to say about VickyT - she didn't say much, and she was on the opposite side of the stage.

Gabe said Cobra'd probably be touring with FTSK this fall.

Also? I had to laugh, because Gabe Saporta apologized for being gimpy with the explanation that after their set the previous day, they'd donned sumo-wrestler costumes and wrestled, and that his ankle had been a casualty. Dorks. Seriously.

4. Disashi. More, please. Um... also, GCH did Cookie Jar, plus one other new song. And Travis dedicated Cupid's Chokehold to his girlfriend. There was a collective crowd "awww" moment.

5. The Bronx. CROWD SURFING. The lead singer climbed off stage and over the barricade, out into the crowd to get the pit moshing. And STAYED THERE. Security must HATE them.

6. We The Kings. I checked that, Juliet. :)

7. Angels & Airwaves. I couldn't help but think about what Mark Hoppus is doing right now. Do concert promoters make a deal to not have A&A and +44 on the same bill?

8. TAI. They won the vote to get the ten extra minutes added to their set, so they did a couple more songs than other bands did.

More Butcher love here. I have to admit though, I was torn between watching him and watching Sisky, who was right in front of me, along with MGC. William came and stood on the speakers, and sang at us, which resulted in ear-splitting screams, especially during the song from the new album. Which Travis from We The Kings sang with him. And Beckett mentioned they'd maybe be touring together this fall. Anybody got more info, speculation, confirmation of that?

Not awesome things:

1. $4 for a bottle of water?

2. Protest The Hero, The Color Fred, and The Audition were all on when CS or TAI were on. How to choose? So hard.

3. Idiots who don't drink enough water or get out of the sun when they need to. Seriously, I appreciate that you want that spot at the barricade. But when you pass out, don't just let your friends hold you up and get you water. Because that's a sign of heat exhaustion, and if you don't get cooled off, it'll get worse. So later on, during the set you really wanted to see? When you collapse and your friends can't hold you up in the crush? Security will have to pull you out, and medics will carry you away when they realize what's going on.

$4 for water? I hope it was at least a big bottle...

Sounds like you had fun, despite the idiots.

It was a blast! I'd go again if they came back through TX, just to see other bands. :)

Sounds like a fabulous time!

I *think* we're going to catch it at the end of the summer--either in Pitts or Cincy. Not positive yet because it's a school-night ;).

That's the only thing that's not so cool: Warped is awesome if you're a student, but if you've got to work? You'll miss a whole day of work, because the gates open at 11 or 12, and music starts immediately after.

Yeah, I have some flexibility in my schedule and some vacation so that isn't terrible for me. It's my sister that is the sticking point as she's in a temporary job and doesn't earn any time off.

They did tell her last week that she could request some if she wanted though. I'm just waiting on her to make up her mind. :D

Also, both of the venues that we're looking at are going to be 3-4.5 hours from us so it was going to be an all-day event for us regardless. ;)

Butcher playing bass! :D:D:D

Oh, god. I hope I can see The Audition. They were AMAZING at Bamboozle and I'd really love to see them again. *crosses fingers*

OMG, I have SUCH a hankering for the Butcher now.

Grr. TAI went on at 5:50, and The Audition were on at 6:05 on a stage on the other side of the fairgrounds. And TAI won the vote to do 10 extra minutes, so by the time their set was done (they did the new song last) The Audition's set was over, too.
