Got a call from spouse as I was leaving work: our neighbor's house was on fire.

It's out now, and it didn't spread. Their house is smokey; there's a hole in the roof, the attic ruined. The neighbors are away, so they don't even know it happened.

We can't drive down the street, had to sneak under police/fire company tape to get into our house.



I can't even imagine how worrisome it was to see smoke billowing from the end of the street and think it might be our house afire.

Oh my gosh, how awful! I'm so glad for you that it wasn't your home but dayum, that sucks. So glad you're safe.

Thanks! Me too! If it was caused by an electrical surge... well, I wonder if we should maybe have our house inspected? It was built at the same time by the same contractors.

That's got to be the worst way to end a vacation ever: come home to a gutted house. Ugh.

I know. Even with insurance, it's got to be a painful process of repairing.
