Do y'all follow bookslut? It's a RSS feed of book reviews and commentary. One of today's books is Getting Off: A Woman's Guide to Masturbation, and in her commentary, bookslut mentions that the author says that women don't masturbate, or don't admit to it.

Maybe my point of view is skewed by the fact that I participate in fandom.

We write porn for each other. We do this as a social activity, but we also do it because it turns us on.

You can happily unscreen my comment. I rather expect that from the content of most of my fics people would be shocked if I said I didn't masturbate! So I'm not going to say it. Because I do. Doesn't matter how much sex you have. The pleasure of masturbation just never goes away. It's different altogether from doing it with someone else. Masturbation is permission to be completely selfish.

I don't know. Maybe it's a generational thing or a privacy issue, that women don't talk about masturbation, but it seems weird to me, given how much entertainment value is placed on sexual or sensual pleasure, and it's always focused on the masculine desire or on mutual desire/pleasure, and rarely feminine alone. I mean, look at how much humor, even in the mainstream, is derived from jokes about men jerking off or watching porn.

It's ridiculous to think that because one chromosome is different, women are entirely different animals.

In answer to your question I've never wanked over a fanfic. I've wanked over the thought of a plot line I'm developing or something but never after reading someone else's stuff. Not much reaches the inner depths of my sexual psyche other than my own ideas. I'm not one for wanking to someone else's fantasy.

I've done both. Actually, when it comes to writing sex, I usually find the initial idea really hot, but once it comes to the writing, the sitting down and working out the mechanics and pouring it out for editing and correction, it's not so interesting to me any more.

Masturbation, mm, one of my favorite things. I do think, however, that you are influenced by fandom. Yes, we are open with our sexuality and our likes, dislikes and smut cravings but I think the bulk of the world is repressed and sad and boo hoo for them. I had real life friends who proclaimed they NEVER touched themselves, OMG, WHY???!!
