I can't say enough good things about Vantage Point. There were a couple of things I thought were a little bit inconsistent, and J was like, "That is SO not the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca," but it earns approval. I really liked the way the story was told: we see multiple different points of view of the same events. There's one POV that's sort of omniscient, or shared between multiple characters, but the rest are of individual characters.

The funny thing was that the women in the seats next to us clearly didn't know what the movie was about, because each time the events "ended" and it rewound to the start for a new POV, they bitched and complained.

Seriously. The poster for the movie says 8 Strangers, 8 Points of view, 1 truth. What did they think they were going to see?

I took J to the show. I believe there is a new convert to the Church of Hot Addiction. :)

First. The venue. The Warehouse has a lounge that overlooks the ballroom, which is where I've always seen bands play before. Last night the ballroom was closed, and the lounge was where the bands played. TINY, okay. The furthest point from the stage is less than 100ft. Capacity is 350.

The only downside is that even that close, I don't know what was up with the set, it was like the drum kit was lower or something in addition to being set far back, because it was really hard to see the drummer. Which, yeah, I usually spend most of my time watching.

Against the back wall of the lounge? All the parents of the tweenies sat, completely unimpressed, for the whole show.

The Cab

I don't remember all the songs they did. For sure Take My Hand and Singing Myself to Sleep and a Goo-Goo Dolls cover (I think - J recognized it) and they ended with I'll Run.

Singer is apparently taking fashion advice from Ryan Ross, and has worn that scarf the last few gigs. It was HOT in the venue, so yeah, um, sacrificing comfort for fashion, I guess. Also, curly, permed hair? WHY?

Dear Cash,
There is no need to spit water out at the crowd. Just because Frank Iero other people do it doesn't make it cool. What would your mama say?

Also, Ian = tiny and awesome and made of win. J asked of him: Why do all guitarists seem to have the shaggy curly hair and wear boxy military jackets?

They're all itty-bitty little boys. As mentioned to [livejournal.com profile] nessime_lisen, I think that Pete Wentz puts it in their contracts when he signs bands to DecayDance: they agree not to grow taller than the members of Fall Out Boy. There's an exception made for Gabe Saporta. Bill Beckett too.

We the Kings

I recognized This Is Our Town and maybe Secret Valentine, but I am not a good fangirl, and haven't listened to their CD more than a couple of times. I liked them, though. I was also highly entertained by the bassist, Drew. He was like Cousin It - at first I wasn't sure there was a face under all that hair.

They promised sweaty hugs for fans who wanted to meet them. Um, gee, I'll pass on that. Thanks.

Metro Station

OK, first, I think they sound way more pop and less rock on their CD than they do live. Second, the keyboardist was rocking out the whole time, and made me smile. I could actually see him, as opposed to the drummer, who is my usual people-watching target.

They did Kelsey and Control and Seventeen Forever, and other songs that I recognized but couldn't match names to.

I think I'd like to listen without seeing them. Because Mason and Trace were just lewd and skeezy enough to be vaguely creepy.

Cobra Starship

Gabe Saporta wins. And now I need to go find an icon of him. Or of Ryland Blackinton. Because the keyboard and the guitar and the singing and the glow-in-the-dark Kanye West glasses? YES.

And they've been touring long enough and doing the songs enough that the performance was smooth, and holy hell, was that Paul Wall who came out to do the rap in Bring It (Snakes On A Plane)?

Regular ticket sales for MCR in Austin were yesterday. I have no self-control. None.

I really liked the format. I would like to have had a little bit more backstory about why on the part of one character, but given the way the story is told, I don't think it would have been possible.

Whee! Sounds like an awesome time. Seriously. Anybody taller than Pete has to prove their worth despite their tallness through... other methods.

The hangover gods were kind to me, and I woke up with barely even a smidgen of a headache.

No hangover is always a good thing. :)

Hahahaha, is that how the rumors about Bill Beckett started?

Yeah. Sometimes, Pete has trouble keeping his mouth closed. And his Sidekick secure.

Actually, Singr's hair is naturally like that. I'm sort of pleased that he's finally put the flat iron down and backed away slowly. :) In Detroit we sat with the parents who kept asking me if I had a kid there. :)

Really? I haven't spent that much time looking at pictures of him, most of the ones I've seen have him with straight hair, so I didn't realize that. Whoa. That is some serious natural curl. :)

There was a woman who asked if we had kids there. Um, NO. I realize I'm a little bit older than the average Cobra fan, but no. Even if I had kids, I'd have found a sitter so I could enjoy the music by myself.

We sat with dad of the year, man. In the past 4 years he has taken his daughter and her friends to every FOB show within driving distance. He even went to Projekt Revolution! He liked The Cab a lot, enjoyed We The Kings, sort of hated Metro Station (we high fived him on his good taste. ugh. so not a fan) and was highly amused by Cobra Starship.

One of the profs I work with is awesome like that: he took his kids to PR last summer. And actually, he decided that he really liked MCR and wants to see them again if they ever come back to Houston. :)

The Cab's cover is I'll Be. They do it a lot. It's adorable. Marshall is also stealing Ryan's scarves and he's adorable. I met Ian on the floor during the CS set and he was so sweet and bubbly and awesome.

We the Kings was awesome at our show too. They promised make out sessions for anyone who bought their CD. We spotted Drew at our show holding pinkies with another boy outside the venue. He is adorable and sweet too!

I LOVE METRO STATION LIKE NOTHING ELSE. The keyboardist (blake) reminds me of Mikey Way... if Mikey played keys. Trace is the sweetest underaged sex symbol I have ever met and we randomly ran into Mason walking along Freemont St earlier in the day. Did I mention I love metro station????

I can't even talk about Cobra. It was so cool.

I'm giong to see MCR at Bamboozle Left....

I had to laugh: during the We the Kings set, Travis and Hunter licked each other's faces a few times, and I thought some girls were going to faint. They definitely screamed.

Blake just sorta hunched over the board and rocked, and he had his cute little glasses on, and was the only one to not say anything at all during their set. He was quiet. There was just way too much leering and pelvis-thrusting from Mason and Trace. But I enjoyed their music. I can't remember, are they doing Warped? 'Cause I'm totally getting tickets to that when they go on sale.

*whimper*

How much do I wish I was going to Bamboozle Left? SO MUCH. Not just for MCR, but because the entire lineup looks awesome.
