how do you sleep?
Sep. 6th, 2007 08:38 amRandom: a baby gecko found its way into the house. The cats usually spend the evening trying to get through the window pane to eat geckos, so this? Will not end well.
I read Supernatural: Nevermore last night.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I think the author, Keith DeCandido, got the characterization right. And the "case" was fine, although I've read a bit more about Pym (heh, that name being used for a character was slick, I must admit) and the Poe thing in the Bronx lately, so I'm sorta OD'd on that. I really liked that this was a story in NYC that wasn't in Manhattan.
There were some things that I really really enjoyed, like the way DeCandido really gets the fact that the Impala and Sam are the two things Dean loves, but that being together in the same car for days on end can wear on a relationship.
Classic rock. Oh yes. Dean gets the vinyl. Sweet.
The occasional self-reference (There's better things on Thursday nights anyhow.) and the nod to Dresden Files were nicely done.
The only thing I really didn't like?
Sam drives the Impala. A lot.
I don't know if this is because the book was written before the whole season had been aired, and he didn't have advance knowledge, or what. But in Season 2? Sam doesn't drive the Impala at all that I can recall, except when evil!Sam takes it in Born Under A Bad Sign. That could have been a coincidence, but I don't think so. I'm firmly of the belief that Dean was in control of relatively few things in S2, but the Impala was one of those things, and he did not willingly give up control of it to Sam at any point that we saw. He locked him out of it at one point. He didn't share his keys. So no, I can't imagine Dean letting Sam drive it without Dean even as a passenger.
But yeah, for those of you who aren't obsessed freaks like me, that's a minor point.
Decent read, all in all.
I've got a couple of Weasley twin drabbles to post in a bit, if my frikkin' internet connection holds.
