New tray of braces, thus a constant low-grade head and toothache. Cramps. I am not going to be pleasant to be around today.

Plus, I'm feeling pretty damn pessimistic about people right now. Why?

It's the second anniversary of Katrina devastating New Orleans. Look at what a fiasco that was and still is. The city will never be the same. No matter what anyone says about the illogic of building a city below sea-level on the banks of the Mississippi, a half-million people should not have been abandoned.

Kenneth Foster is still set to be executed, even though the jury and prosecutor agree he didn't commit murder. But because of Texas law, his case can't be re-presented because there's no new evidence. I have issues with capital punishment under any circumstances, but this case? Totally fucked up.

eta (30Aug07): Governor Rick Perry commuted Kenneth Foster's sentence less than 24 hours before he was due to be executed.

I swear, later I'll post some happy stuff. I've got pics from a meme and I need to pimp some twin-stuff sponsored by the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] mrsrittenrotten.

I know. It's just not right. He was driving the car, wasn't involved in the shooting, but some weird technicality in TX law allows the driver/accomplice in a murder case to be tried for capital murder, too.

It does feel better. Something about ranting always does. Better than letting it stew, I guess, until it's uncontrollable. :)Thanks.

Thanks. :)

Had some chocolate. Ignored real life for the evening. Took a long nap. My sleep schedule's screwed now, but I'm happier so life is good.

Don't know that Kenneth but this sounds so very, very wrong! Change that law, damnit!

Good to rant, isn't it?

The governor commuted his sentence this morning, less than 24 hours before he was due to be executed, which is good. But there were still two other executions over the last couple of days that were not given as much media coverage. I have so many doubts about our criminal justice system, I just can't understand why the death penalty is still available here.

Thomas Jefferson once said that he liked a good storm to clear the atmosphere. A good rant does the same, I think.
