So. Jury duty yesterday for my little 'burb. Municipal stuff, mostly traffic-related, involving fines and such but no jail time.

My questions:

- Do they seriously teach people in TX law schools to say "voir dire" as if it rhymes with "four tires"? Or was that just a personal pronunciation by the city attorney?

- Are the chairs deliberately designed to make ass-cheeks fall asleep?

Never done jury duty, but I can sympathize about the chairs - some of the ones we have at school are pretty bad that way.

"voir dire" rhymes with "four tires"? *snort*

I didn't realize what the city attorney meant at first, I was so confused. :)

Institutional chairs must all come from the same manufacturer.

We have staff meetings in the school cafeteria (the only place that seats 150 and everyone can hear everyone else), and after a long one, you can guarantee a case of numb-butt.

Between "four tires" and your poor ass-cheeks, I'm tearing up with laughter loud enough to wake the neighbors... *laughs* Thanks for this, Iris. *raises glass*

I love the way voir dire is pronounced in texas. it's hilarious. especially back when we had to do that freedom fries bullshit. hilarious.

The funny thing is I had jury duty for district court today, and there was a video about jury duty and one of the lawyers in it (member of TYLA, I guess?) specifically said "voir dire, or as we say in Texas, 'vor dyer' is literally 'speak the truth'." So it's like they're proud to be so backwards.
