After a week of these InvisAlign things, I have to say this:

- it sucks, not having ye olde ginormous travel mug of coffee to sip from all morning
- my speech has changed slightly, but probably most people wouldn't notice; mainly on "s", "sh", and "ch" sounds
- for all they look small, these things take up a remarkable amount of space in my mouth
- the mouth is the most disgusting orifice on the human body; taking these things out and putting 'em back in after eating makes me not want to eat, just because of the handling
- I'm posting the cancelled check next to my computer, and every time I want to not wear these stupid things, I'll look at it and remember that compliance is the key

*sigh*

Thirty-nine more weeks with the bottom trays. Sixty-three with the top. Joy.

Last time I went to the dentist they tried to talk me into Invisalign. I don't really think I need to straighten my teeth, but I considered it.

BTW are you up for the slashy meetup I posted about on [livejournal.com profile] hp_houston?

Oh, yeah, I just saw that. I'm in. ;)

I guess I wouldn't have thought your teeth needed straightening. Mine, on the other hand, have drifted noticeably in the last few years. Whenever I see my mom, she always mentions it, so I figured I should just suck it up and have it done. This is better than the metal-mouth alternative, but still. :/

Hmmm... So, would you suggest braces over InvisAlign?

I can't compare, since I never had the regular kind.

Bear in mind:
1) I've always thought mouths are gross.
2) I am addicted to caffeine and normally drink coffee until noon, have water with lunch, then drink a Diet Coke or more coffee on coffee breaks. With these in, you are not supposed to drink anything except water.

These are really about being willing to force yourself to wear them. Because if you don't wear them 20 hours a day, every day, they won't work. Most people can't even tell I've got them in, so in terms of appearance and speech, the downside is not bad. I'm just totally squicked by the brushing, rinsing, and taking in and out of the trays.
