Pursuant to our conversation about preferring geeks (I cited my fangirling of Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds and other science-type heroes, in addition to gesturing at MrIris; she agreed that of the SFR brothers, Ernst was by far more desirable because of his geekiness), J let me know about this article in WIRED on that very topic.

I wonder if there's a similar rational for spectacles- and hand-fetishes? ;)

Last night, my roommate read me an article about a study done on the sexiness of vocabulary. There was a group of not-so-pretty women who used a simple vocabulary, and a group of not-so-pretty women who used an extensive vocabulary. The women who used the extensive vocabulary were judged about 6% more attractive than the group that used simple vocab. Gah. I wish I had the article link as I'm sure I'm forgetting some important parts of the experiment. I'll get it from my roomie when she gets home and send it to you. It was an interesting article.
