Really. Not.

I didn't even know this romance novel thing was going on here in Houston - J just told me about it.

But this? The fact that non-explicit m/m promo items would be sensored while more sexually explicit m/f items would be allowed to be displayed? Pitiful.

Then again, I can't say that I'm really surprised by it. Look how long it's taken romance as a genre to be anything but a dirty little secret for female readers. Even now it's still considered low-class or trashy. (Generalization, not what I believe, thnxverymuch.) I'd guess no matter how much money m/m erotica makes publishers, especially publishers of e-books, it's going to be a long while before that gains widespread public acceptance.

That's wrong on so many levels. That poster is decidedly tame as well, which is even more galling. I've seen more explicit things on the evening news.

Striking Hyatt off the list of places to stay.

It's sorta lame. And you know that if it had been a woman stretched out like that the business men in question would not have objected.

No wonder she's pissed off! I would be too if I was her,and the people running this thing should be ashamed of themselves for their obvious bias.

However, I agree with you. Gay novels(and films to some extent) are still destined to be seen by the majority of society as 'unsuitable' and not reflecting society as a whole. But of course that's said by white, middle class,'nice' ladies who stay at home to look after their children.

Have you openly told poeple including friends that you read and write gay porn. I told the girl I work with and she was ok. My now ex partner found out last year and we have recently split. He says it's because of the 'filth' I read on the net,but it's perfectly acceptable for him to watch real people do real, quite nasty things to each other in the name of sex as long as one's a man and one's a woman!

Sorry for the rant. Can you really see m/m being equally accceptable any time soon? I for one, don't hold my breath.

A few people know, but I think for them there is a disconnect between me telling them and them really really knowing, if you know what I mean. J and I have discussed it, though, 'cause she reads m/m and m/f romance and erotica on a regular basis. But yeah - not talking about it with colleagues or anything like that any time soon.
