New Student splattered crystal violet all over the sink, floor, and cabinet this weekend, and didn't clean it up. (That was the twitpic from yesterday.) He sent me an email saying it had happened, and asked if he should try to scrub it up.

Uh... YES? If he'd sprayed it with 70% ethanol or some methanol when it happened, it would have wiped clean, or mostly so. Now that it's had all weekend to set? Housekeeping is probably going to have to strip the floors. And still, he asked me today if he should bother cleaning the sink. Um... YES? IS THAT EVEN A QUESTION?

Seriously, why does an adult need to ASK if he should clean up his own mess?

Did he ask like you would say 'Oh no that's fine, I'll get it?' Because clearly that is not ever going to be an acceptable answer. Ever.

It sounds as though his mummy did everything for him. Because that would just be, oh I don't know common sense?

I'm not sure what the ols' words actually are but I'm sure he had to. Give him an F. Oh, and an essay four feet long of the proper clean up for all lab chemicals.

I don't know if it's worse teaching seventh graders who don't know better, or adults who should know better. Oy...
