On 12August, I asked our administrative person to file the paperwork to register me and The Chief for the AACR Advances In Breast Cancer meeting. We can't book it using the lab credit card b/c Travel forbids that sort of use; if we book it using a personal credit card, they will reimburse us for the cost after the conference, not including any interest that might have accrued on the card in the months between (it generally takes two to three months for the paperwork to be processed), if we can't pay it off on our own in the meantime.
Travel asked if we could wait to register, since the close of the fiscal year was approaching (no more funds could be encumbered starting on 25August), and I replied that we *had* to be registered before 13September. They said it would be processed as soon as funds were available again, ie 1Sept. So we agreed, reluctantly.
My abstract was accepted, and in the paperwork was this sentence: If you have not registered for the conference, please note that abstract presenters must register no later than Monday, September 7 in order to keep their abstract in the conference proceedings. .
I forwarded that to the administrative assistant, and she said she'd expedite matters.
Yesterday, 1Sept, Travel said that there was no way, even though all the paperwork has been filled out and turned in, that they could cut a check and get us registered before the 8th, and probably not even before the 13th.
I can't even speak, I'm so angry. I gave them a MONTH'S NOTICE, and they are still so fucking slow and lazy and reluctant to DO THEIR JOBS that they couldn't get us registered in time.
Fuck this shit. I am not putting $800 worth of registration on my own credit card b/c Travel can't do their jobs.
ETA: I talked to the guy at AACR, and he said that he'd make an exception since I called about it and explained the situation, but it had to be in by the 11th.
