+ Star Trek babble:

I liked the movie. I like the new actors and the way they worked together, even if the plot left a bit to be desired. I liked Spock Prime's "I have always been your friend" bit.

I think they could have nixed Uhura's microminis and it'd've been fine. But I like that her and Spock's kiss happened instead of the iconic Kirk/Uhura interracial kiss. Because hey, not just interracial, but interplanetary, right?

And if they were going to fix the monologue to say they're going where no ONE has gone before instead of no MAN, they could have fixed that stupid fucking split infinitive.

+ At the bookstore the other day, MrIris picked up a copy of Cassandra Clare's novel from the table with the "if you liked Twilight" sign on it. He mentioned wanting to read it, and I had to stop him and explain why no, I could not allow money to be spent on that. There was a mom and her teenaged daughter standing right there, and they totally looked at me like I was a freak when I told him about the Draco trilogy and the plagiarism and the fan wank.

+ I got to Austin at ~4:30pm. There were maybe 30 ppl in line, which was just FINE with me. Chatted with a mom who was escorting her daughter and daughter's friend and two UT students before doors. I ended up at stage left, behind one seriously short girl who left after Matt Nathanson, so I had the barrier between Andrew & Jonathan. Pretty. :)

Um. What else? Erin McCarly was good. I didn't know her music at all, but she was cute and engaging, and she's got a decent voice. I really enjoyed her cover of Tom's Diner, complete with beat-boxing by her keyboardist.

Matt Nathanson wins at life for working Fake Empires into one of his songs. And getting the crowd to sing Jesse's Girl

But mostly I was just really really really excited to see Jack's Mannequin.

Oh, Bob. (Is it obligatory for bands to have a Bob? I think it might be.)

They deviated from the setlist - instead of Hammers and Strings they did What Gets You Off at the request of the crowd. I... just held onto the barrier and tried not to make heart-eyes at Andrew McMahon. Which was completely and totally useless, because that's all I could do when the other guys took a break and he sat down at the bench to perform Caves. And then again for the encore, in which they covered Springsteen's I'm On Fire.

*sigh*

I'm still annoyed that they canceled their Houston date b/c they'll be back with The Fray this summer. Because that is at the Woodlands, and it's in support, and IT'S JUST NOT ENOUGH. But I'm afraid I might go if we end up not having plans for that weekend. Just because. Jack's Mannequin.

+ I think I promised to upload some Midtown a while back, so here: Living Well Is The Best Revenge and Forget What You Know.

+ I am currently reading Pygmy. I... feel like I am reading a completely different language.

OK. I'm going to go beta some fic. (\o/, it's been ages since I seriously beta'd something, and I'm sort of excited)
