Yeah, that does suck, and I can't think of a polite way to go about it. I was thinking that maybe you could ask the "real" post-doc if they could ask him something in Chinese, but that probably would send all kinds of wrong messages. But then again, coming to work in a place where you don't speak the language and have no way of effectively communicating with the other members on the team probably isn't the best plan either. Or maybe I'm being harsh because I've had a craptastic day. Either way, I hope the new person helps this situation out. I'm still sorry that you get the tail end of what seems like fail, though.
