First, the book news, since there's just one piece: Amy Goodman's going to be in Houston on the 17th to discuss her new book, Standing Up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times. Anybody interested in attending with me? :)
Next, the music news, gossip, and sharing.
Scott Weiland and Velvet Revolver have parted ways? I can't say I'm surprised, given the blog-comment war, but I'd sorta hoped that they'd hold it together a bit longer. Like, until I'd had a chance to see them.
Also, didja see that The Nightwatchman will be making the rounds? If two weeks of shows can be called "the rounds". None of the posted dates and locations is likely to be possible for me. *disappointed sigh*
But. At 5pm tonight tickets go on sale for Forever The Sickest Kids w/ four other bands, including Metro Station and The Cab. FTSK were just here last month for the AP tour, and I'm happy to see them again. But I'm really going so I can feel ridiculously old in comparison to the Cab kids (they're so tiny!) and to laugh at how skeezy and blatant Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso are when they're trying to pick up chicks from the audience. And to watchthe MikeyWay of the group Blake do his head-bobbing, body-rocking thing at the keyboards.
March's most-played list
The playlist (one song from each of the most-played artists/albums):
Beat It, Fall Out Boy w/ John Mayer - For this 25th anniversary year, I expected to hear more remakes and tributes. (BTW, did everybody see the Peep-containing dioramas in WaPo's Peeps Show? There was one entry that was MJ-themed: Thrilla in Manila.). Here? Patrick Stump + John Mayer = WIN, without the grating MJ falsetto.
I Constantly Thank God for Esteban, Panic(!) At The Disco - My favorite song from A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. I heart the version on their live DVD even more - banjo! piano! the switch in tempo and lights from acoustic to electric! - but don't have an mp3 of it, so you get the album version. Why, yes, I am hoping like a crazy woman that it'll be on their set list for HCT. Douse the lights.
Top Of The World, The All-American Rejects - WHY aren't they on Warped when it hits TX? Also, Move Along has been out for a couple of years at least. New album any time soon?
Stone Cold Crazy, Queen - Because it's Queen.
Ready To Fall, Rise Against - I'm maybe a little bit infatuated with these guys right now. Again, why aren't they doing any of the TX dates of Warped?
Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf, The Killers - I don't even like bourbon, but this song makes me want some.
Become What You Hate, Midtown - Gabe Saporta being sorta emo. And playing bass. Heh.
Bleed Like Me, Garbage - I love that this song is all about the fucked up things people do. I had it playing at work a few days ago, and The Chief heard the chorus ("Hey baby, can you bleed like me?") and commented, "This is a cheerful song." I explained that it was about people involved in self-mutilation, gender confusion, and eating disorders. He gave me his standard You listen to some fucked up music look. I don't think it's that messed up, it's just about normal people who hide their misery below the surface and handle it the best way they know how. I just think this song is not hiding behind a bouncy melody and pretty lyrics the way some miserable songs do. (*cough* Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind *cough*)
Bulls In Brooklyn, The Academy Is... - I'm not the biggest fan of Santi, but this song...
Autobiography Of A Nation, Thursday - Live version.
Set It Off, Audioslave - The first song in my "Sweat It Out" mix right now.
The More You Talk The Less I Hear, Armor For Sleep - I think the title is self-explanatory.
X Amount Of Words, Blue October - "I never knew you 'til you left me with the crying disease." What he said.
Bare My Teeth, Converge - Um, hardcore punk here. You, uh, might not want to play this too loud if you're downloading it to your work computer.
Pushing The Needle Too Far, Indigo Girls - This is the live version from 1200 Curfews, one of my favorites of their albums. I had a hard time picking just one song. *sigh* The tickets for their date at Stubb's aren't available yet. I'm crossing my fingers.
Tell me if you take it, so I can reload if necessary? Thanks!
Also. FINALLY. A NEW EPISODE OF CRIMINAL MINDS TONIGHT! I have sorely missed Spencer Reid's purple scarf.
