asimplechordSo, the Killers remind me of my grandma now. I know you're thinking that's crazy, but there is a reason for it.
When I was a kid, we lived in Florida. My mom would send me and J to stay w/ our grandparents in Maryland in the summer, so that she had one kid to worry about while school was out. I have vivid vivid memories of the weekly trip "to town" that Mommom would do for errand-running, banking, shopping, and a luncheon out.
Mommom would get all dolled up, put her lipstick on (it was PINK, hot pink, toxic pink) and we'd climb into the car (a monster of a vehicle, a Caprice Classic) and off we'd go. The car had a cassette deck, and she always always ALWAYS played Kenny Rogers. Specifically, Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town. Kenny Rogers and this song in particular are inextricably entwined with my grandmother in my head. There's no untangling them.
So when I first listened to Sawdust? I laughed at their cover. But now whenever I listen to any of the Killers' stuff, I think of that song and Mommom. It is wrong, wrong on so many levels.
So of course I had to share. I told J.
Her response?
I offered to sing It's a Small World to get Ruby out of her head, but she declined.
Also. NO MORE IDEAS, KTHNX. My brain is overloaded with input, and now nothing is getting done. One birthday fic is already late and getting later every minute, another is only just outlined, and the next two bits of RPS are still unfinished. My to-write list is heinously long. Why can't I quit my job and write fanfic and be a kept woman?
That list just grows and grows. There's no need to add the apocalypse AU gen fic with Andy Hurley and Chester Bennington to the list.
Or the infidelity and angst fic that Ryan Ross's comment in this interview spawned. Because seriously, one of them having sex w/ someone else, with Lying on in the background? It's all hurty and I don't even like angst-fic, and I don't write Ryan Ross because he is hurty. And because he's got issues with fanfic being written about him. But the idea won't go away.
And, you know, I'd just like remind myself before I post any new fic that, as we've all seen before but were reminded in the last week, not everyone about whom RPF is written follows the advice that MikeyWay is giving here:
