1. Some days I love my job. Today was one of them. We compared getting adherent cells to detach from plates to shrinkage. My (male) boss made the analogy. I sputtered coffee everywhere when he did so. This was shortly before he asked if the music I had playing was a Beastie Boys CD. It was Thursday. In what universe does Kill the House Lights sound like any Beastie Boys album ever recorded?

1b. A guy interviewed today for the post-doc vacancy in our lab. He's had four post-docs in less than eight years, which is unusual, particularly for someone who wants to go on to a professorship and running their own lab. I'd say that train has left the station. And I'm thinking he's a problem child, and I'm hoping that the boss-man doesn't offer him the spot, actually.

2. There was uncooked shellfish on the sushi platter at dinner tonight. Ick. Texture issues. Plus, uncooked shellfish. ICK.

3. The tickets for next Monday's Gallows gig arrived. My precioussss. < /creepy, covetous petting >

4. Fandom is crack. I've said it before, I'll say it again. CRACK. Only cheaper.

5. There's more het porn, in the form of Mikey/Alicia, added to the Epic Love Story 'verse. Laundry Run. I can't even tell you that this will be the last of it, because my brain has suddenly decided that girl parts are hot, whereas in the past I'd be like, yeah, whatever, got one of those, not interested. IDEK.

6. I am not going to add another show to my fandom obsessions. *turns off Friday Night Lights, puts the remote down* Not, not, NOT. Even if Kyle Chandler is the coach.

7. Oh, hey, while I'm thinking about the Beastie Boys... does the video to Cobra Starship's The City Is At War remind anyone else of Fight For Your Right (To Party)? The cream pie bit, and the whole party atmosphere? Or am I the only one old enough to remember that video? < /geekery >

8. Now for the political portion of the evening. Is no one else appalled by the fact that Barack Obama is a good inspirational speaker, but doesn't answer questions? That his voting record is not really that much different than Hillary Clinton's? They're both Republican Lite, as far as I can tell. I just don't get why everyone likes him. I mean, he'd be less divisive than Clinton, if only because she has so much baggage. But when it comes to policy, I just don't see much difference. And OK, the "hope" platform? Sounds remarkably like Huckabee's, and he fucking scares me. I'd almost rather Romney won the GOP's nomination, because he just strikes me as an opportunist, whereas Huckabee, Huckabee looks like a creepy born-again zealot under his bland exterior.

ALSO: [livejournal.com profile] slashfest Round VI is open for prompts. YAY! Any fandom, any pairing.
