Fred knew the moment he Apparated back to Diagon Alley that something was seriously wrong. Instead of bustling with the normal activity of weekday business, the street was quiet. He hurried into the Wheezes, only to find a mess of destroyed merchandise and shattered glass.
Screaming from the back room startled him, and he found George on the floor, writhing under Bellatrix Lestrange's curse.
The wand lifted, then she repeated, "Crucio!"
"Expelliarmus!"
It didn't quite work, but it distracted her enough to stop her torture.
Before she winked out of sight, she warned, "The Dark Lord will not be mocked."
