I've wondered about that. I mean, yeah, he wants "normal" (which is highly overrated, IMO - I spent my youth wishing for normal, and as an adult who has achieved it? not so impressed with it) but he never really knew his mom. So. Mary to have lived, but more for family/life reasons that because he really knew her?
