i want to smash them all
Jan. 26th, 2011 01:35 amSo, possibly you've heard that Against Me! are touring again?
They were in Houston tonight. At Warehouse Live's Studio, which I love b/c it's so small and intimate and awesome.
Oh my goddddd, Tom Gabel. Ngh. I feel sort of shitty, with a headache and sore throat, so I made the strategic decision to bail on the mosh pit for the quieter area near the bar. But still. Tonight's show ranks with November's Dresden Dolls/Girl In A Coma set for the best show I've seen in the last twelve months. I've probably seen this band a dozen times in the last three years, and they have NEVER disappointed. They were at Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza this year, plus they opened for the Silversun Pickups, but this show was SO MUCH better, because it was their fans, and the crowd was so into them. (SSPU fans... not so much. I'm not sure who planned that lineup, but it was weirdly incompatible, even if it exposed AM! to a wider audience.)
Random thought, discussed with A on the drive home: how many people in the audience know who they're singing about in High Pressure Low, when they mention McNamara? I only ask b/c we have some younger friends who seem appallingly ignorant of American history between WWII and the mid-90s. It's like the 60s-80s were lost, historically or educationally speaking.
In my mind, I Was A Teenage Anarchist and White People For Peace are now inextricably tied to
pjvilar's squatterpunk!AU, Our Year Out of Time, so I'm going to go re-read that while I wait for the show-high to dissipate and the Nadal/Ferrer match (Vamos, Armada!) to air.
Fuck, tomorrow (today) at work is going to suck. But it was worth it.
