Do you know how long it's been since I went to a gig where the band seriously asked if anybody had a place for one of the other bands to sleep tonight? Read more... )

Dear AP,

Crap like this is why independent media gets my attention and my business.

How is that important? HOW?

No love and no respect,
Me

Also? I love KPFT and Democracy Now, but primary season isn't even over yet, and I am already tired of electioneering and such. Still. So much love for Gloria Steinem debating gender and race issues. Because instead of devolving into petty bickering, the participants actually, you know, communicated. I can't think any new dialogue between the two camps will make a difference in terms of the Obama/Clinton dynamic - there seems to be too much acrimony between them for them to make good running mates - but still, it was nice to hear. Instead of mudslinging, y'know?

Seriously. It's one of those cheesy things that I love, and don't talk about.

What? you're asking. (Or maybe you're thinking, Whoa, bad taste.)

This confession stems from an email convo w/ J, related to a blog-post suggesting that a review that says "I think this isn't a good book" does not necessarily mean "I think you are stupid", but is often interpreted to. It shouldn't, though, because we all like different stuff, the good, the bad, the ugly, the really really cheesy. So we started listing stuff we like that is perhaps not culturally high-brow.

I like fanfiction more than regular fiction most days, so that's first on my list.

What do you like/enjoy/remember fondly that's cheesy or dorky or silly? TELL ME!

My list (will be edited as I think of them):

Wham!
M*A*S*H
My So-Called Life
General Hospital (back when Jack Wagner was on it)
Batman, the tv series
Star Trek
Melrose Place (don't try to tell me none of you ever watched it in horrified fascination; it was like a slutty train wreck waiting to happen)
Extreme (shut up; Nuno Bettencourt's acoustic guitar was awesome live)
BonJovi (don't EVEN look at me like that; Jersey bands rock!)
DefLeppard (I was addicted to hair bands in high school and college. WHAT? They did some good live shows too!)

My iPod battery is completely screwed. I noticed recently that fewer and fewer songs were playing before the battery died. Today, I let it charge all day, and then when I headed to the gym, two minutes into my run I got the low battery warning. Less than a minute later it died.

There is nothing more boring than running on a treadmill without anything to listen to or watch (it was dark out, and raining, so no eye-candy in the pool the treadmills face).

OMG, John Bolton on ADS again? Blech.

But Stewart's opening monologue? Yessss.

I'm going to Austin for Fangoria on Friday (< insert fandom squee here >) and coming back early Sunday morning because we have plans for that afternoon. MrIris is heading to Austin for business on Tuesday and staying until Thursday. We could have planned that better, don't you think?

ETA: Because the world didn't think Texans were a bit special before. A UFO? Seriously?
