Just thinking about the whole American-writing-in-a-British-'verse and vice versa. Although, really, the Potter 'verse seems to be the only one that is really viciously critical about that sort of thing.
So tell me.
Do you care about use of appropriate vernacular?
Is it OK as long as the flavor of the word usage is appropriate for the character?
Or does it bother you enough to stop reading something when there's an obvious difference in slang or vocabulary?
Does it matter if the misuse occurs in dialogue or it's just in description?
Does it matter which fandom you're reading?
ETA: Request for opinions here. That's all. This is not to say that the occasional odd word bothers me. Just that I notice it. Hell, I know that I do it all the time, because I'm terrible when it comes to dialogue. I don't care unless there's something completely unlikely being described or said. Like Hermione Granger talking like a Valley girl, or something.
