forget what we're told

♥ Henry Jenkins' blog posts about gift/shared economies. LJ what?

♥ Gabe Saporta. IDK, guys, I'm listening to Midtown's stuff again, just for the lyrics for characterization purposes, and I don't understand - he out-emo'd Pete Wentz, how does everyone not love him? Why is he always characterized as skeevy and gross?

Speaking of Midtown, does anybody have their split albums? I've got the four full-length ones to trade, if you're interested.

♥ WGN and its rebroadcasts of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Q!

♥ the sweet new out-of-lab office space I will have when we move

Q is fun... but Picard is my favourite!

The Captain is my favorite, too, but I really really like the Q episodes. :)

HE IS! But that's fine; it gives me more explore.

oh man, midtown!gabe intenses me out D: and it makes me really sad because, okay, maybe i'm a cynic and a pessimist, but i just don't see how someone can go from being midtown!gabe to cobra!gabe in such a short time. which isn't to say that he's some totally different person now, but i just get this feeling that he's still just as miserable, he's just gotten better at hiding it.

AND THAT IS MY SUPER OVERINVESTED THOUGHTS ON GABE SAPORTA.

ngl, i kind of write him as a smarmy bastard too. i don't know why.

IDK, I get that his about-face was a deliberate "fuck you" to the music industry (Columbia records in particular) and the fans he felt took themselves too seriously without seeing their place in the overall framework, and where it was going. I just. The whole last album is beautiful but so so down. Cobra Starship was his "OK, we're all fucked, but this is going to keep us up until the party's over" gesture, but... I just want to yell, "Listen to Being From Jersey Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry, ppl!" at people sometimes - that's exactly what he's doing!

I don't think he's that much happier, necessarily. (Srsly, a dude who listed Notes from Underground as one of his favorite books? Fucked in the head. Like Underground Man. Which, when I think about the structure of that book makes me wonder about his whole transformation. But anyway.) But I do think he has more stability and he can do whatever outrageous thing he wants to next, and Cobra Starship got him that, where being some other emo kid among dozens of Jersey bands didn't. It's possible that he could have gotten that from FBR if Midtown could have moved from Columbia (DriveThru? they switched labels before FWYK), but I don't know, that sound doesn't really fit with the FBR label as it is today.

pretty much my reaction to him is usually "oh gaaaaabe." occasionally with hand gestures.
