The Dark Lord made me do it!
After reading a thread inspired by
snarkyroxy's photomanips, a plot bunny would not be denied.
Here's the drabble she,
feathersindigo and
ordinary_magic inspired.
Go ahead and laugh at my foolishness, you know you want to. I did while I was writing it. It was supposed to be a spoof of mpreg stories, but...well, that's not how it ended up. Read it at OWL, or click below.
It was blue. Snape rubbed his eyes, hoping that he had imagined it.
No, still blue. Fuck.
He’d thought he was imagining things: the odd queasiness each morning, the way smells suddenly seemed much sharper and stronger, the strange urge to cry instead of snark at Potter when he made his usual dunderheaded mistakes in Potions class. Eventually those signs had disappeared, and he’d gone back to his usual routine, ignoring Lupin and his sidelong glances at meals and staff meetings. But when the waistband of his trousers had begun to tighten and his nipples became sensitive, all his misgivings had returned in a rush of fear and apprehension.
He couldn’t go to Poppy; no, there was no way anyone could know. So he’d brewed the diagnostic potion himself. Was there anything more embarrassing than urinating into a cauldron for a pregnancy test? He thought not.
And now the Pregnancy Potion had turned blue. He was pregnant. With the werewolf’s spawn.
It had only been one moment of weakness, a small indiscretion. What had he been thinking? Well, it didn’t matter now. He would find a way to keep this quiet. And when the child was born, then he would make a decision about their future. He supposed he should tell Lupin. It was his child too, after all.
After cleaning up his workbench, he paused for a moment, gathering his courage. He could do this.
He headed out of the dungeons to the Defense professor’s office. He knocked, but received no answer. The door was unlocked, so he entered, planning to leave a note on Lupin's desk requesting a conversation. When he leaned over, however, he saw the piece of parchment. Parchment he recognized as having seen in Potter’s hand. On closer inspection he saw the names: Potter, Weasley, Granger…Pettigrew? Black! And there, next to Black, he saw Lupin. Something withered in his chest and died. Grabbing the parchment, he headed outside.
Fin?
Edit: People reviewing at OWL have asked if Sirius is back from the veil, or about the significance of the parchment. I sorta thought it was implied that this was an alternative to why Snape was going up to see Lupin that fateful night in Harry's third year. He goes up, sees the steaming mug of Wolfsbane undrunk (not mentioned here, I'll add if I decide to continue this little tale), is sidetracked by the Map. And we know what happens from there. Clear now?

I can't be held responsible for acts committed while under Imperius, can I?

Would love to see you write more; you could fit it in while you're waiting on your experiments! :P
And if you need a beta... *g*

Really, I sat down to write something funny after seeing Snarky's pics and the commentary from Jen and Indy, but what my fingers typed out was something else entirely. Quite strange.

But I'd still like to see what happens next, b/c I know you know...

Needs a better title if I continue it, though. I didn't even think about a title 'til I was at the upload page, and realized I couldn't leave that box blank.

As for the title -- i've done that too. Numerous times. Jen's bailed me out a few times, she's really good w/ titles so you may wanna ask her. Or, what I do sometimes, is browse Quote Garden or something similar for inspiration.

Yes, as you suggest, I see the possibilities for angst, and maybe someday a happy ending for Severus. With or without Lupin. I'll have to think about it for a bit, because I hadn't plotted any further than maybe another scene when Lupin is leaving the castle for the end of Harry's third year.
