SgtMajor's job is to be an asshole, and he excels at the position

Today was a lazy day. I read a book, went for an hour-long run, and did essentially nothing productive. (Except watch The Truth About Cats and Dogs and imagine a bandom AU. B/c I don't have other movie AUs in my head to be written right now. *eyeroll*)

Also, I did convince Aaron that HBO would be a sound investment. WHAT? How To Make It In America is airing and The Pacific premieres soon, and I'm totally watching that shit.

The Generation Kill rewatch for episode 1 was today. It was cool to squee with people about it, but now that I"m watching again after reading GK and OBA, I'm more interested in the way Command is portrayed. Also, I'm really fascinated by Sixta and his obsession with the grooming standard, because on the surface it seems ridiculous, right? HE seems ridiculous, with his too-hick-to-be-real accent and spit-inflected railing about policing moostaches. But not adhering to the grooming standard WILL make a difference later on. IDK, I'm also interested in the fact that there's not ever a good explanation, other than one of Brad's rants to Poke, about the difference in how Recon Marines normally operate in the field and how they're being used there. Or that they themselves don't realize what the hell they're doing once their bridge mission is scrapped.

On a lighter note, someone should tell me about the letter that Walt reads while Person does his "war is the motherfucking answer" speech. He reads it carefully, and he smiles and sniffs the paper. Girlfriend/wife? Random "dear Marine" letter? Tell me your opinion.

The Whigs' new album, In The Dark, is available for presale now. And they're doing a showcase at SXSW. If, you know, anyone's interested.

I hope anyone on my f-list from Chile or the South Pacific, or with family there, is safe. ♥

ETA: :( Obama signed a year-long extension for at least three parts of the USA PATRIOT Act? DDDD:

Sixta was a character I wanted to punch so hard until the very end.

For me, it's almost better that we didn't have any explanation because neither did they. It's almost like we're in their shoes. The whole thing was an epic clusterfuck and yeah, they did some "good" but it was all so convoluted.

Walt....Walt. ♥____♥ Probably from gf but I'd love to believe it was a random letter from a lovely person and he was sniffing perfume and the scent of home.

Yeah, Sixta's little wink/nod conversations with Gunny Wynn were his only redeeming factors.

I assumed the letter was from someone he knew, his gf b/c of the way he quietly enjoyed it, but it occurred to me as I watched this afternoon that it might be just another one of the random letters, and he wasn't being as vocal about it as Person.

I'm still ♥_♥ over this: "I have the best platoon," he says repeatedly. Away from his men, Fick cannot talk about them without smiling. because even though that line isn't repeated verbatim, the viewer sees it through out the series, even from the first episode.
