I knew Kurt Cobain was a huge Metallica fan back in the day, so it follows that...
Dave Grohl is the biggest Metallica fanboy EVER.

Also? My vision might have grayed a little bit when he suggested in the live debut/interview with Metallica that they do some shows together and Lars agreed.

The guys sound like they actually like each other again, and enjoyed making this album. Which is a big change from the way they looked and sounded after (during) the recording of St. Anger.
